problem with making any hyperbolic statement abt video games as a medium is that I assume for every game that scrapes by into the western canon there's like 50 untranslated taiwan-only DOS RPGs that have been running since 1989 that are probably just as good as Chrono Trigger that I'll never play

Just finished Andor Season 2, and I think the Andor series and Rogue One combined are the best Star Wars has ever been and will ever be. It is just normal people doing whatever they can, whichever way they can, tipping the dominoes that ultimately can bring down evil of that magnitude.

FF1 Pixel Remaster is SO MUCH BETTER than the original, there are so many QoL improvements. I wouldn't have the patience to beat the original without that.
