I'm sure it's just a writer saying "you've had some right cowboys in 'ere mate. I can do something with it but it ain't gonna be cheap"

I think raising income tax would be an admission that she's finished as Chancellor and will be leaving govt along with Starmer before too long. They'd effectively both be sacrificing their careers to protect the party. I'm not sure no 10 and no 11 are up for that

The conditions for them to be a key part of a govt coalition and to prioritise this legislation in negotiations with larger parties aren't going to be present any time soon are they? Nevermind the rest of their policy agenda...

The UK is not the destination of choice for asylum seekers in Europe. It is behind Germany & France and is 17th, or 5th at a stretch, of 28

Yeah - I remember when I started going to matches my dad gave me and a friend a lecture on how to stay safe. It was never 'good natured'

I also think that increasing involuntary care burdens in ageing societies will see a growth in unpaid care work (and an incentive to work longer and save more) - all unevenly distributed ofc

"3.27% of the PLP have a dumb idea" shouldn't really be cause for an "exclusive" article tbh

you could get a group of 13 MPs to call for most things right now if they thought it'd look good on a leaflet for the local elections

This feels more like a policy designed to throw a bone to the hospitality sector after a series of policies that have harmed it

young people have lost services and third spaces - that's a revenue problem not a regulation one. This govt is too often trying to get legislation to do the heavy lifting

We're an ageing society. Consumer spending will only grow in the 50+ age bracket and if we're being growth focused then it might be worth asking what age friendly hospitality looks like.

Not assuming that the way we choose to remember spending our youth should be replicated by a new generation
