I think it can be translated as "the madness of..." but other interpretations are available - I think this might be more apt as well

(would recommend btw)

large parts of social media are going to be worse than usual with events in the US

a good time to go into settings and turn autoplay of videos off

I did well with this from @loulayorke.bsky.social on bandcamp friday. Thanks to those I follow who recommended it

Not happy to see McMahon out and I worry for devolution agreements. But "fresh start"? The election last year was the fresh start

There just isn't time for new ministers to come in & learn the ropes. Decisions need to be made this month if there's going to be any change in the new financial year

These will include algorithmic tools that were being developed before the LLM frenzy and just rebranded later as AI

and back office innovation often has more impact than customer facing innovation despite getting less glory

I hate lists like this

There are two places at home where small changes to behaviour can make a big difference

Recycle water in the garden; be more mindful of your routines in the bathroom

But why not shuffle together a mix of those points and then add in a useless distraction

he was given a choice - but with custody suites the way they are I can understand someone who isn't used to them struggling to make a good decision

There's a wider problem in legal support for offenders which is also driving problems in courts and isn't strictly a policing issue

the manufacturer's advice is also not to do this!

But interviewing and offering a caution without legal advice once it's been requested is a problem

I'll sometimes order vinyl from overseas (Australia this time) and it doesn't exactly arrive the next day. When it does turn up I'm dumb enough to be pleasantly surprised - even if only a couple weeks later

And a good fit for a drizzly Manchester morning

there's a good summary from @carers-uk.bsky.social on the impacts of reduced income for carers

poverty and ill health just generate more crisis in communities which leads to greater demands on emergency services and higher levels of economic inactivity

www.carersuk.org/reports/stat...
July 17, 2025 at 2:32 PM
glad to see this highlighted - and the losses to income highlight a broader range of impacts

good care liberates people and is economic infrastructure

cuts to care haven't saved money - they've shunted costs to family members, created barriers to employment and have amplified health inequalities

people will really value the utility of a neighbourhood shop or community business but if they're financially stressed they're going to the big ASDA

and more people are financially stressed

if govt wants local growth it should assess the impact on local economies of policies that lower income

a lot of talk about tax and whether broader income tax measures may be needed. Worth noting that although we pay less income tax than comparator nations, for many the rent is too damn high - additional tax really will be noticed

I've been listening to this all morning. It's great. No notes.Would recommend!

and this on volunteering linked to education on pg 34 also interesting - shows appetite for a formal form of engagement

good points made in this piece on the ability to reduce administration. And worth noting that MHCLG sees devolution as an opportunity on this agenda

How much value does grant ringfencing and the contract management of local govt bring?

I have a five year old's memory of '76 but what has stuck through the years was the sense of how weird and unusual the heatwave was

Our buildings, services and civic life need to be resilient to more frequent and lengthy heatwaves - I just don't see this being addressed in plans for service reform
June 18, 2025 at 8:26 AM
Biggest fan I could get and below an open window to pull the air in - will move it in front of an open door into the back should a heatwave hit

as per @jim.londoncentric.media I bought the fan

you should buy the fan

interesting point in the spending review - local govt looking to see healthy spending rises at first glance. I think this is more likely to be spending previously given in one-off grants.

The same (or less) money with more flexibility rather than more money
