Yes, but as written, the steps are thus:

- Preheat the oven
- Chill your dough
- Run up an enormous electric bill on the oven while you wait for hours to use it, presumably

(‘cause it was very much the “tube jetting cold air right onto the machines” variety of AC, too :)

Very different sort of career, but that reminds me of going into the server room on hot days to stand in front of the AC vent.

The developers playing their own game constantly is, I fear, exactly the problem when it comes to difficulty. They know the thing inside and out and are extremely, extremely practiced. Guess who doesn't have that advantage when starting the game up from scratch.

The one time we got a foot of snow, it was an absolute wonderland out there.

Where I lived, snow days often didn't even involve much snow, since the school district was so hilly and sprawled so far that you'd get, like, five flakes of snow before the officials panicked and went SHUT IT ALL DOWN. But every now and then you'd get a good one.

Hell, a lot of us work multiple jobs so that we can keep creating stuff for people to read or listen to.

Because making stuff matters to us. It's worth all the work for us.

We're not the elite. We're working stiffs. Who make stuff they like.

Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

Related: I feel like a lot of the piracy vs buying discourse (🤢 that this is even a thing) gets framed as stealing money from individual authors vs. stealing from faceless corporate publishers when for most authors it’s about whether or not they’ll get to publish another book.

Occasionally I recall that the first time I ever had pecan pie was at Richard Petty's house, which is high up the list of "statistically unlikely life experiences."

(it was good pie! I'm still a fan.)
