Team Candace right here. Just say No to District 4 council presidents please. Though, if Candace doesn't get it, I can see Elana being a bridge candidate.
Members of Portland's incoming City Council held a straw poll Tuesday night for council president, a post whose powers are likely to rival those of the mayor under the new govt.

Candace Avalos, Olivia Clark & Elana Pirtle-Guiney are locked in a dead heat.

As a a current and a past co-chair of GTAC, I can tell you that I've heard many of our members dealing with the feelings that come along with what Sameer is describing here. The citizen bodies can be a much greater asset to our city than they currently are.
There'll be a lot of conversations around the CONTENT of the GTAC recommendations, but I want to say something about the bigger picture, which is how our City government engages with its own (City) advisory groups. It's not right, and it needs to change.

Ongoing rebuffing: The Govt Transition Advisory Committee and our set of recommendations were allotted a total of 15 minutes in the two weeks of recently-completed onboarding sessions for new councilors.

All of this.
While I’ll be in person to be accessible to constituents, non front facing employees shouldn’t have to be. This is antiquated. Work from home equalized the workplace in so many ways for women, parents, caregivers, people of color, etc., why should we take that away?
Portland's new mayor is making one of his first moves in office (well before office, really) to be requiring city staff back in their offices after several years of hybrid work.

It was...not well received.

Yeah, this. Onboarding starts this weekend!
Today's the day we officially know who won the Portland City Council races! Congrats everybody! The new government convenes in 30 days!

Now, as the newly-electeds start their onboarding boot camp this week, there is much about the new Council's operations that still needs to be resolved. 🧵1/8

I believe the additional money for school also takes into account Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) increases. Some were afraid it wouldn't, so I hope I'm right. This doesn't get us what Oregon's own Quality Education Model calls for, but it's a start.

This is unacceptable. The OSAA is not doing enough - something needs to change.

New council, new mayor, new system of government to set up... All with a tighter budget. The council will be working with a small support staff, too. This will not be easy.

A special shout out to all who helped cure ballots! Wouldn't have happened without the hard work of Rep-elect Muñoz and team. I've also heard PCUN had a huge role in winning this race. Thanks all! Here's to hoping we actually do something with the supermajority!

This is causing huge problems for, often already underwater, school district budgets.

This right here. Money in politics is THE problem. You can't fix anything until you fix that.
Progressives should put all our energy into getting money out of the Democratic Party.

As far as pushing the Trump Admin, outside organizing + finding places to work with him, like capping credit card interest rates at 10%.

Olivia Clark should not be in the top three. I hope the seven progressives do not let that happen. I think Candace rises to the top, with Elana or Steve as possible spoilers.
