This would be my #2 film of the year right now if it had a 2025 U.S. release date. Pálmason is a master!

IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU should be an absolute lock for Best Actress and Best Sound Oscar noms (if not, cancel the awards) and a major contender for Picture, Director, Original Screenplay, Film Editing, and Cinematography.

I will not be shocked if he tweets about sending the National Guard to Baktan Cross. That's our reality now.

We're halfway through the year, so we're wondering, what is the best film you've seen in 2025?

Doesn't have to have been released this year, just a film that you saw for the first time in 2025 that you loved.

You watched Charlotte Le Bon on The White Lotus, now watch her feature directorial debut, Falcon Lake, one of the best films in recent years.

I urge everyone to watch Girls Will Be Girls. Great script and directorial debut for Shuchi Talati, impressive acting debut by Preeti Panigrahi, and incredible supporting performance from Kani Kusruti.
The John Cassavetes Award, awarded to the best feature made under $1,000,000, goes to ‘Girls Will Be Girls’ (Juno Films). #SpiritAwards

I posted my annual film awards today. Only three of my winners might take home Oscars. Most weren't even nominated.

This situation is beyond fucked. It's an actual constitutional crisis as he prepares to become dictator, and everyone is letting it happen. Every day I feel like I'm on the verge of a breakdown.

The FLOW score is great not only in the film but also to have on in the background while writing.

Universal Language getting a 2025 commercial U.S. release means I lose a top-ten film from this year’s list.

If Oscar voters intend to make a political statement w/ their picks, I actually think The Brutalist could benefit (if they're on board w/ its length and solemnity). It offers a pretty damning portrait of the U.S. in its depiction of the wielding of power, the immigrant experience, and moral rot.
That would seem to suggest Wicked, which has a lot in common with this moment while being a big budget musical blockbuster set in a fantasyland.

But I do wonder if we're underrating Conclave a bit. It checks a lot of the same boxes while being more obviously prestige-y. And it's an arthouse hit.

I saw Queer back in early October, and I’m still thinking about that epilogue. It continues to move and haunt me.
