For NYT Vows: When the Eagles won their first Super Bowl in 2018, he tweeted the famous WW2 kissing photo as a joke. She didn’t follow or know him, but suggested they should recreate it at the parade. They kissed within a minute of meeting, and got married just after Philly's second Super Bowl win

Shamus Clancy and Ashley Suder were strangers when they met at a Super Bowl championship parade to recreate a famous photo. They were brought together by a viral tweet and a bold suggestion.

Howie Roseman says the #Eagles won't even scout players who have ever been violent with women:

“I won’t even watch them. I don't even want to talk. I can't go 'He’s really good, he did it 10 years ago and he learned from it.” It just doesn't work for us."

Communicating right now is fraught. Here is some advice on framing in turbulent times:

1. Frame messages around shared, enduring values.

2. Use clear language and consistently highlight solutions.

3. Shift from jargon to concrete explanations.

4. Don’t rebut; reframe.

Good news!
And a federal judge has granted an emergency restraining order against the cuts. Though many departments have already fired staff and canceled vaccine clinics, this is what health departments were hoping for. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/u...

Something I would like to emphasize from this story: interviewing the city's "vector control" workers was a pleasure. These guys were professionals doing an important, discreet task and doing it well. A memory I keep in mind amidst all the public sector bashing. www.inquirer.com/business/phi...
Rats don’t run this city: Why Philly fields fewer rat complaints than New York City and D.C.
Compared to nearby cities, Philly seems to have a much lower rat population, or at least is home to vermin who are better at hiding.

2025 is not yet 3 months old & already there have been 378 confirmed cases, #CDC reported today. This year's total is the 4th largest of any year since measles was declared eliminated, meaning no longer endemic, in the US in 2000. 2025 will likely be #3 by next week. www.cdc.gov/measles/data...

Every defiance of that desire is a small victory.

The practices of love, joy, hope, kindness, solidarity, and all their kindred are ways we defy the fascists in our everyday lives.

Joy under fascism is not silly.

It is revolutionary.

As usual, Kate is spot on. For those interested in how to message in a flood of misinformation tearing public health apart, her resources are a great place to start.
Reality is socially constructed. Republicans (following and falling in line with right wing media) understand this as a strategy rather than a descriptive theory. Democrats don’t yet get it.

This wasn't normal after one death, it's even less so now. Tragedy.
NEW: 2nd death linked to growing measles outbreak in Texas and New Mexico. It's an unvaccinated adult

This is amazing!
Unbelievable news.

Pancreatic is one of the deadliest cancers.

New paper shows personalized mRNA vaccines can induce durable T cells that attack pancreatic cancer, with 75% of patients cancer free at three years—far, far better than standard of care.

I think what this shows is that most people aren't actually anti-vax, they're just extremely obstinate about being asked to do anything even slightly inconvenient when they don't see an immediate benefit for themselves
In Texas, said one doctor: “We’ve vaccinated multiple kids that have never been vaccinated before, some from families that didn’t believe in vaccines.”
