the film adaptation is pretty good!
If you’re into books written by people instead of assembled by AI slop, I just finished this one, which is about a Black guy who quits the CIA to train Black freedom fighters in Chicago, and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Food banks were already struggling to keep with demand. Then, Trump slashed $1 billion from crucial USDA programs supporting them.

Now, thanks to his shutdown, food assistance for millions of Americans is about to try up.

The perfect storm of cruelty.

The GOP's education playbook.

Step 1: Make public schooling as shitty and stressful as possible for kids and parents and teachers.

Step 2: Sell private schooling as the antidote to the stress and shittiness.

Step 3: Funnel public education money into private hands.

As a classroom teacher it's frustrating that my intellectuality and my perspective are systematically overlooked while my labor, my pedagogy & my time are never enough

I feel this is even more true because I teach elementary.
I wanna see more classroom teachers delivering keynotes, facilitating workshops, and given space and larger platforms to talk about what’s working/not working with students in this moment.

Too many educator conferences, not nearly enough current teacher voices and experiences.

Education Department isn't being dismantled, it's being repurposed to destabilize public education so they can privatize much of it. This letter is serving that harm of diversion of public funds to private schools.

Other harms of this project think: dysfunction, depletion, & discrimination.

i.e., we don't educate democratically. We deny students & teachers a voice, adequate resources, and diverse, participatory experiences that would cultivate democratic values & dispositions. Elites are stratified above, isolated from poor & minorities, can't relate, evaluate life, risks differently
Why are the educated elites failing us?

Because they have been educated with democracy instead of educated through democracy.

Facts are Facts.

The U.S. Dept of Ed does not and legally cannot “control schools.”

States already do that.

Shutting the U.S. Dept of Ed means ripping $$$ from your local schools. Lowering opportunity for students. Oh, and maybe raising your local taxes.

Fight myths with facts.

Greg Abbott calls his voucher scam “school choice.”

But we already have school choice—neighborhood schools, charters, magnets, academies & more.

Vouchers don’t give us choice. Vouchers give our tax dollars to unaccountable private schools that can discriminate against our kids.
