If you like them, Sardines or tinned mackerel with black olives, hummus and water crackers. Diced cukes and tomatoes with them in the summer.

When you are working poor you do not have the time or extra mental energy for meal prep. You may or may not have a ride to the grocery store. I'm not defending Door Dash at that budget but it is very expensive to be poor and requires tons of daily logistics.

I wish they wouldn't put computers with games front and center in our local library. My young daughter goes straight to them and won't even look at the books in the library. We read a lot at home and she loves books but the screens just draw her in.

That's how we make stuffing down here apparently, instead of with bread. I think it makes for dry stuffing and every one I've had just seems to be missing something. Maybe I just haven't had a good one. But you are right, it's nothing gravy can't fix:)
