Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

Dostoevsky has just earnestly told me for the fourth time that he needs to relate one final piece of information to me before he begins the novel and I’m beginning to get suspicious 🤔

Independent media is more important than ever.
CBS was the network of Edward R Murrow, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather, Katie Couric…. all journalists who earned their spots through doing actual journalism for YEARS

And it’s now led by Bari Weiss who *checks notes* an opinion writer who was a book review editor
Bari Weiss was named the editor-in-chief of CBS News, cementing the rightward shift of one of media's most storied newsrooms

Judith Butler: To Imagine a World After This, Democracy Needs the Humanities
Many young people tell me that they fear there is no future. When they ask about the future, they are also asking: what is still imaginable or for what may we still hope? To say there is no future,…

I'm slowly #degoogling my life. I use MEGA for Drive, Ente for Photos, Fastmail for mail, and Firefox. I'm an Android user, though, so there are some things I can't easily get rid of (Android Auto, Google slides (for work), Messages, etc.), but I'm doing as much as I can to break away from #Google.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day. 💔

It took me 5 years to break out of the adjunct hole. While I was fortunate enough to have a supportive Chair, the precarity of my position was always stressful. When a full-time position opened, my years in the department did benefit me in the hiring process. I recognize that's not the norm, though.

FX renewing "English Teacher" — a show I *really* liked — sends a very clear message regarding whose experiences/stories/accusations we find significant and whose experiences/stories/accusations we do not.

And I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why FX feels like sending that message.

I can't believe I missed his birthday!
Today is Edward Prime-Stevenson's birthday. I recommend celebrating by writing music-themed historical fiction that is totally not a vehicle for your eccentric queer analytical framework, lying about your age, and citing your own pseudonym.

“Homosexual Hearers” and Queer Musicality in Xavier Mayne’s The Intersexes (1909)
In The Intersexes (ca 1909), Edward Prime-Stevenson used gossip to support his queer readings of 19th-century symphonic music.
