This technology is so clearly designed to profit off cheating and struggling students--its insidious. And yet universities keep announcing how they're allowing this company into its midst, to exploit and incapacitate our students even more

I think capital-S Stoicism is poisonous -- a doctrine for philosophical emperors and their submissive slaves, absolutely inimical to any kind of social justice. Lowercase-s stoicism is sometimes useful, though, for justice-seeking people trapped in Empires.

In my reading, fiction and non-fiction, I am always looking for allies. I suppose that entails looking out for my enemies as well.

Just wondering why I would want a technology whose "grandest promises" include destroying the need for human creativity and creating a new class of enslaved people trapped inside data centers controlled by oligarchs

Do I know anybody who might be willing to speak to my two composition classes about their experiences as a worker and union member/organizer? Deets: ideally, you'd come in on Tuesday, Sept. 16, live or via Zoom, say about 10:30-11:15ish AM, if that's convenient. All dates and times negotiable.

If I have to explain to you why it's a bad idea to use a machine that makes shit up 15-80% of the time AND destroys the environment AND contributes to rising fascism and genocide AND puts brilliant skillful creatives out of work by stealing their work, then we're already speaking different languages

It's telling that at the very moment the majority of the public starts to recognize that Israel is committing a genocide, Israel's last defenders only want to talk about Hamas.

I keep hearing that the rule of law is dead, but new oppressive laws are being heaped up before my eyes. It is important to keep Wilhoit's Law in mind: lawlessness is for the powerful only.

I will entertain zero discussions about the environmental impacts of air conditioning until we deal with energy-obliterating scourge that is AI. People need to stay cool when it’s hot. What we don’t need are plagiarism machines flooding our lives with more lies and slop. And we can’t have both.

This administration's concentration camps take the same stance toward prisoners' deaths as the administration itself takes toward truth: casual indifference.

This is a very compelling argument about what's happening to us right now. Have we been undergoing a revolution in "common sense" to which Trump 2.0 is the counter-revolution? It's worth thinking about.

Andry José Hernández Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.

No one has heard from you in 97 days.

As vigil, I’m posting a photo (or video) of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.
