🔥🔥A 2021 study found that Medicaid expansion as part of the ACA led to a substantial reduction in mortality, primarily driven by reductions in disease-related deaths. A 2018 study in the Journal of Political Economy found that, Medicaid reduced infant and child mortality since the 1960s and 1970s.🔥🔥

CW: extreme violence

people used to gather in huge crowds to view and participate in lynchings, often festival like fanfare. photographs were used as postcards. people were often tortured to death, body parts sold in stores as memorabilia - sometimes in stores. just so we're on the same page

Women were already banned from becoming doctors (as of 2022), but yesterday the Taliban announced women could no longer become nurses and midwives, shuttering institutions where women were enrolled. Given the sex segregation in care, this is severely endangers women’s health.

I'll never forget a workshop when an editor said the first thing they look at is a submission's references to see if they are formatted to journal specs - because that was how they knew the author was serious about publishing in that journal.

I remember thinking, "There goes tenure!"
Why do academic journals have such strict/varied formatting guidelines on first submission? (Beyond length)

Isn’t formatting for a journal, only to be rejected, just a massive unnecessary cost imposed on scientists?

Couldn’t scientists put their time to better use?

Lots of useful developments from ASSA that, for @shirkandsteal.bsky.social @jennifercohen.bsky.social & I, show a path to meaningful participation in #ASSA2025 even if there are picket lines.

I thank @lkatz42.bsky.social & team for leading to practical solutions.
