This is a debate tens of thousands of you asked for when you signed the parliamentary petition. Please ask your MP to attend & send a clear message to the government that #WASPI women are #notgoingaway until justice is served.

When Labour MPs are being asked to say "90% of #WASPI women knew", they are being misled by the DWP. That figure is just wrong and not supported by the independent Ombudsman.

The goverment's "90% of #WASPI women knew" figure is DIRECTLY CONTRADICTED by the Ombudsman in his report and in recent evidence to the Work and Pensions Select Committee.

The govt's "90% of #WASPI women knew" figure relies on a survey in which only 5% of the sample were actually #1950women. The Deputy Ombudsman called it a "red herring" and he is right.

"increasing the #SPA reduces average incomes of those affected, & this reduction is concentrated among those who were already out of paid work before state pension age. Increases in the SPA therefore increase income poverty rates"

“You can check your pension age on the Govt website” says DWP boss. Funnily enough, that’s what #WASPI women did, and until 2016 it gave them the wrong age. Maladminstration requiring compensation.

WASPI update as MPs probe DWP's 'remarkable' reason for not compensating
The Ombudsman previously suggested payouts up to £2,950 but the Government said recently there would be no compensation.

Average UK state pension is around £10,500 a year.

It is the only or main source of income for nearly half of all pensioners.

Average UK wage is £37,430.

State pension is less 50% of the minimum wage.

Poverty/Insecurity, premature death awaits all retirees.

Pensioner poverty in the world’s sixth largest economy is a political choice
The hardship inflicted on retirees now will surely visit future retirees unless steps are taken to alleviate misery.

@waspicampaign.bsky.social Women all over the UK are owed financial redress.

Myself and my Lib Dem colleagues have always called for just remuneration.

370 of my own constituents have signed the petition calling for a compensation scheme. I look forward to properly addressing this.

The government has apologised for the injustice suffered by the WASPI women after the ombudsman's finding of maladministration.

But what good is an apology without steps towards redress?

In this week's Westminster Hall debate, I called for WASPI women to be compensated 👇🏾

When a Westminster Hall debate is oversubscribed, you can tell it’s about a hot potato for the govt. New Pensions Minister
@torstenbell.bsky.social was jeered as he tried to defend the govt refusal to pay #WASPI compensation. The anger from cross party MPs was palpable.
📺Watch: Packed, oversubscribed debate yesterday on the injustice 1950s women faced in changes to state pension age. This injustice, identified by the women, and an independent Ombudsman can’t be ignored. (1/2)
