Having been very lazy last year, this is a thread of my attempts to go to in person entertainment things in 2025...
Saw my first Christmas jumper being worn this evening. It's way too early, particularly when it's so mild that people are still drinking outdoors.

Hate fancy dress, but if I really have to do it, this is probably how I would do it.

I would love to read a Long Read about the longevity of Flat Beat by Mr Oizo, after it came up at the B2B2B2B with Thomas Bangalter on Saturday.

It predates a lt of the other classics that come up on these types of playlists by about a decade. How has it survived being a novelty hit in 1999?

Boo ☹️

I thought we were finally going to get double decker trains in the UK.
EUROSTAR GOES DOUBLE-DECK:
Eurostar confirms order for 30 new double-deck trains from Alstom, similar to TGV-M, with option for 20 more, in service from May 2031. The 200m sets can run to/from London as 2 x 200m with 1,080 seats.

True sign of a technical expert is how unconnected they are, or if they have a fall back option.

I tried to ask Co-Pilot how high 35m is. I think it's as useful as a helpful toddler?

Side effect of my day job is that I enjoy spotting telecoms infrastructure in unexpected places or in hiding. Here's a Starlink terminal in St James Park

And the latest Panic World too. I can barely follow it and not looking forward to trying to explain this to more offline family members. pca.st/oqrtl03v

Didn't anticipate learning what United Kingdom is in Danish this morning, but it looks like a trip to Copenhagen in Dec for a certain show....

Sitting by the London Bridge organ. Fun listening to people trying it out. But the best so far is the toddler whose random key pressing was actually a bit like the Prom I saw on Tuesday. Not so much fun, the current guy who stared someone out who was already on it to get to it to practice hymns.

This is a really good thread about the whole experience.
Last night, I went to sleep. Wait, let me rephrase that. Last night, I went to Sleep. Specifically, an eight-hour, overnight performance of Sleep by Max Richter. One of the strangest and best bits of performance I've ever seen. A thread?

Not a fan of this song usually, but the whistling and humming version evening, turning into a gentle hum around the room was quite magical.

They missed a trick not putting Franz Ferdinand and Sparks on the same day (though they are probably trying to spread the main acts around). No Oxford connection that I can see in this line up, but Puuluup are half of the Estonian entry from Eurovision last year.
Vaundy, Dave Clarke, Sparks, Ellegarden, Jeremy Zucker, L'Impératrice, RSD, Andr join the Clockenflap 2025 line-up. hongkongfp.com/2025/08/28/c...

Quite proud of getting this one in one, without having visited the city.

I missed Golden Saturday at the Olympics in 2012 because I was watching this and it was so worth it.
To celebrate Proms season, throwback to 2012 and the National Youth Orchestra performing the amazing Handsfree by Anna Meredith. I have never seen an orchestra look so terrified / relieved *after* a performance. youtu.be/Xo97ztKppIw?...

*Looks at cupboard full of tote bags*

I don't actually need another tote bag, but had to get this one for the zip!
Made myself a new bag a a while ago, I got lots of nice comments so I’ve made a few. This is no ordinary tote it has a zip pocket at the side to keep your cherished items safe and still within easy access & another inside pocket with key strap so you never lose your keys feltmistress.bigcartel.com

Was supposed to go and see The Hidden Cameras this evening.. the Northern Line was suspended just as I got to my station and currently stuck on a bus in North London. Now a competition between my patience, the set duration and London traffic.

You also need a comment from a percussionist or a brass player: "I had to focus very hard to count all the beats so I can come in at the right time. But at the end of the day, this is about team work."
“You know we weren’t sure if we had them in the first section but as soon as the violins came in you could see the room come around. Do I wish we’d gone stronger with the wind? Maybe, but we are where we are and what a venue to be in tonight.”

Being pooed on by a bird is supposed to be lucky. What if you're hit by a cigarette falling from an upper floor which then covers your top in ash?

One great thing about the British seaside. You can get a take out from a micro brewery and take it across the road to drink by the beach.

The Crab Museum exceeded my high expectations. So much information packed into each of their displays. They should really join bluesky.

Accidentally in Munich when it's Pride. Made it a lot more fun wandering around the city. Particularly the contrast between Asian tourists sightseeing at the palace, and locals partying. Particular joy at the Asian kids who can be themselves
