Was jellybeantwits at the other place.

Mostly lurking.

Does something with telephone lines by day.
Sam Amidon again, but this time with his all star friends band at the Union Chapel.. It was more like being invited to watch them jam and mess around, particularly the piano accompaniments from Thomas Bartlett and Nico Muhly.

Public Service Broadcasting at the Barbican. A mix of old and new material, and realised I far more enjoy the ones with a bit of a groove and interesting samples vs the slower ones. The encore felt more like a group of school teachers at the end of year disco.

Trip back to Oxford to see Headphone Wasp's first gig. Turned out to be a reunion of lots of familiar faces from many years ago. It made me realise how much I miss a tight knit scene and when I would just go to random gigs and find people to chat to.

Finally made it to Cafe Oto, after looking at their listings for years. It was Utopia Strong who got me there, and it had everything I wanted, synths, a recorder, two types of bagpipes and a champion snooker player.

I tried to ask Co-Pilot how high 35m is. I think it's as useful as a helpful toddler?

Side effect of my day job is that I enjoy spotting telecoms infrastructure in unexpected places or in hiding. Here's a Starlink terminal in St James Park

Continuing the theme of watching bands I should have seen decades ago, tonight Idlewild. All it took was an early show at a venue within walking distance. I really need to revisit the back catalogue.

Daði Freyr said that we were either going to have a good time or a bad time, but not medium time. Always fun and uplifting to watch. And love how he's created a surreal creative career out of going viral.

Went all the way to Paris to look at some bowls.

Glad I spent today looking at buildings rather than my phone.

Adding to this, it was fascinating to see the mechanics behind the piece. The different moments when the musicians had time to sneak off stage and rest. They also had the music displayed, and to see the accuracy of the time stamps for each bit. #maxrichter

Didn't think I would ever see @maxrichtermusic.bsky.social perform all 8 hours of Sleep live nor that I'd spend a night at Ally Pally.

So many magical moments, at 2.30am when most were asleep, 4.30am as the music changed and 5.30am as daylight started to creep into the room and the music.

Fifth and final #bbcproms of the year. Didn't expect to hear an orchestra mimic a variety of bird calls and other animals noises. Nor an organist playing as many keys as he can by spreading his arms across the keyboard.

4th #bbcproms of the season and best yet. Knew anything with Pekka Kuusisto would take us on a journey. In the first half, listening to songs in Ume Sámi mixed with classical repertoire (the Caroline Shaw was great). Then Shostakovich from memory (again!) w amazing interaction between the players.

Not sure if I've ever been to the first night of a play before. The draw for venturing to West London to see Interview was Robert Sean Leonard. Some bits of the story wasn't convincing, but utlimately it's a story about power and the shifting of power to social media.

I wonder if the members of the @auroraorchestra.bsky.social knew what they signed up for when they first started playing symphonies from memory? This year, not content with learning Shostakovich's 5th by heart, a few of them also performed solos while being lifted up and carried around the stage.

To the Proms! And an unlikely double bill of Joe Hisaishi and Steve Reich. Much as I love Hisaishi's soundtracks (and he was the conductor this evening), it seemed very thin in comparison to Reich's The Desert Music.

Originally booked this because the gig was in my neighborhood, but then was moved a little further to the Lexington. Didn't know much about Adebisi Shank going in, but it's definitely the sort of thing I'd have watched 20 years ago, in similar sticky and stinky venues.

Start of my Proms season, living it up in a box. Came for the Avro Pärt, and got bonus almost tribal singing and shaman drums in Curse Upon Iron by Veljo Tomis.

One great thing about the British seaside. You can get a take out from a micro brewery and take it across the road to drink by the beach.

The Crab Museum exceeded my high expectations. So much information packed into each of their displays. They should really join bluesky.

Seeing this name for the last few months was confusing at first, but glad I saw the play Stereophonic. A play about musicians' perfectionist tendencies and why they may not be very likeable people.

The Fifth Step at Soho Place. Thought I was going in to see a serious play about addiction. Turns out it was very funny and touched on faith, power and self worth. It was also very well observed and nuanced about generational differences.

Accidentally in Munich when it's Pride. Made it a lot more fun wandering around the city. Particularly the contrast between Asian tourists sightseeing at the palace, and locals partying. Particular joy at the Asian kids who can be themselves

Finally saw @lcdsoundsystem.bsky.social after two decades. In 2004, at ATP we made the very poor choice of prioritising Har Mar Superstar over them. Why did it take me this long to finally get round to seeing them live? Every Sunday night needs some LCD Soundsystem energy.
