Rising tiger, India, on track to deliver 500 GW of new renewable capacity by 2030. An absolute GIANT emerging.
Good morning with good news: India meets 50% renewables & nuclear capacity target 5 years early!

As clean capacity deploys, clean electricity production surges.

Solar grew from 5 TWh in 2014 to 48 TWh in 2019 & 137 TWh in 2024.

Hydro was 157 TWh; wind 82 TWh; nuclear 55 TWh in 2024. #energysky

Still a good primer on what's happening in global goods market and the stakes for the EU, me thinks.

Chinese exports threaten Europe even more than the US
Biden is right to heed working class voters in Pennsylvania. The Continent, which has even more to lose from a second China shock, better start listening to its workers too.

Excellent AER paper from Luca et al. demonstrating how China’s exports crowd out production and curb innovation globally.

It reinforces the argument I made in Politico last year about the drag China’s distortions place on EU productivity and innovation.

Congrats, Rux Energy! 🥳 Winning the CMA CGM Award for hydrogen storage is a game-changer. This innovation is critical for safer logistics in a green future! 🌍💡 #HydrogenRevolution #Innovation
In some absurdly good news which I cannot even fathom, we at Rux Energy have won the CMA CGM Startup Award 2025 for Safe Transportation of Dangerous Goods for our hydrogen storage solution. I am fortunate to have such a strong team, with my UK director Charles delivering the final round pitch.

When I review a Word document, sometimes I get rid of all the double spaces after periods in one fell swoop by doing a find and replace and typing two spaces into the find box and typing one space into the replace box
What's your most niche and unimportant crusade?

Mine is that I use the symbol "var" (as scientific standards bodies indicate) for reactive power instead of "VAR" (most common) or something weird like "Var" or worse, "VAr".

I'll admit it does feel a bit odd to put "Mvar" next to "MW" and "MVA". 🔌💡

But yes, moving off oil, coal, and gas is about improving economic competitiveness and human prosperity for decades to come.

With current pledges, the world's on track for 2.6°C of warming in 2100 compared to preindustrial levels.

10 years ago, before the Paris agreement, it was 3.6°C

20+ years ago, we thought it would be 4-5°C

So 2.6°C is better, but the problem is that climate impacts are way worse than we predicted.

I think IEA gets a lot right here except the long term outlook.

Yes LNG is booming but what I was told by peer experts who were at all of the last 5 COPs was that COP28 felt like a last hurrah for LNG. AI was seen as it's saviour. But everyone was expecting a fade out.

The IEA has brought back the Current Policies Scenario (CPS) in the World Energy Outlook (WEO).

I think this will be useful. Fossil CO2 emissions keep rising, when they should be falling. It is time to admit that. So I hope the CPS can help address this issue.

I remember, when in the dead of night, on 19th Dec 2009, Obama left the COP15 climate talks in Copenhagen, in part bc the Affordable Care Act needed his physical presence to pass. We, the World, paid the price with a failed Copenhagen Accord. This collective sacrifice... now thrown down the drain.
