This is a program that takes federal dollars and uses them to purchase fresh food directly from North Carolina farmers to offer to food bank customers.

The Trump-Musk White House decided they were unnecessary.

The terrible CR Budget bill — written by right-wing House Republicans with no input from anybody but themselves — was passed tonight with the support of 10 Democrats.

An absolute failure of Democratic leadership. NOBODY in the Senate should have voted for this dangerous bill.

Not that it matters, but what Trump did with Musk and Tesla today is a clear violation of Title 5, Section 2635.702, of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations: Use of public office for private gain.

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

1/ The reason this is particularly bad—and undermines all the great journalism the Times does—is that it a) treats lives like a game b) will be seen as the view/cavalier attitude of the entire NYT, and not just 10 columnists, many of whom should have been put out to pasture long ago.
Of course the NYT sees the "DEI" stuff positively & is neutral on anti-trans discrimination

Just a quick observation that amid all the turmoil created by the Zelensky meeting, this got completely ignored: A Chinese citizen paid Trump $50 million for the SEC to drop its charges against him.
BREAKING

The SEC has just halted its fraud prosecution of Justin Sun, a Chinese national who has put more than $50 million in Trump's pocket since November through the purchase of crypto tokens from a Trump-backed company, World Liberty Financial.

Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.

This is doing something. This is making an effort on messaging. Other Democratic lawmakers: take notes.
