I will always defend democracy & the rule of law. That means standing up to power when needed and that includes THIS government. That’s why I shall be standing shoulder to shoulder with Liberty TOMORROW and I hope you will too

Liberty will be back in court NEXT WEEK to #DefendDemocracy.

THIS WEEK is a big week for democracy in the UK. No government can be allowed to abuse secondary legislation by using it to undermine our democratic rights & that includes this one. It’s sad that less than six months in we need to remind them of that

This is depressing. PM appears to rule out youth mobility scheme with EU on ground “freedom of movement is a red line.” That makes no sense. It falls far short of “free movement” because it only allows individuals to come for a limited period & does not allow them to settle in UK or EU member state
Oh come on Labour - so depressing to hear Pat McFadden say UK has no plans for a youth mobility scheme with the EU. We have schemes with NZ, Australia, Canada, Japan, Iceland, Uruguay & more - only reason not to have one with EU is fear of right wing press. Such cowardice @bbclaurak.bsky.social

Any change in our laws about extending the boundaries of 'lawful killing' or of 'assisting with a suicide' will be a seismic change. Those nuanced expert contributions are an essential component of framing safe law, or of deciding that safety can't be guaranteed.

This is so mistaken and perverse. We need a BAN on driven grouse shooting. Not licensing, which gives a stamp of approval to an activity that will always be destructive and cruel.
What is the RSPB for?
We need grouse moor licensing in England now.

It's time for new legislation to make it happen.
It is a Time for Change in places like the Dark Peak. Grouse moor licensing can be a win-win solution to what so many are calling for - sustainable land management and more nature in our uplands.

It needs banning. As an RSPB Group Leader I am disgusted by the RSPB’s cowardice on this. It’s as sickening as the slaughter of migrant songbirds in the Mediterranean, and it’s about time it was called out as such.

The Times journalist who fought to get the story about the Reform MP who kicked his girlfriend multiple times @georgegreenwood.bsky.social tells how hard the newspaper had to right to get the information released.

So who has been protecting the Reform MP?
As an addendum to this, it took four months to get this information, which would have been publicly available at the time of conviction.

The Times had to appoint counsel and attend a hearing at Westminster Magistrates Court to secure its release. That is not an expense all publishers can afford.
