Ilse Aben has received the NWO Stevin Prize from OCW directorgeneral Feite Hofman in The Hague.

She is honored for the societal impact of TROPOMI, the Dutch space instrument mapping methane leaks worldwide — with an impact twice as large as all greenhouse gas emissions of the Netherlands.

Methane plumes have never been this pretty! Should still try to reduce those emissions though. Congratulations to @copernicusecmwf.bsky.social for this great visualization and thanks to the team at @sronspace.bsky.social providing the TROPOMI plume data.
📣 Big update for the Methane Hotspot Explorer app from #CopernicusAtmosphere! New features include #methane plumes, a wind layer, and data on coordinates, emission rates and more.

Monitor and explore methane hotspots all over the world.

Live from London Climate Week where we participated in a LOW-M event about bringing data to finance. In our project with GMH we support waste methane mitigation using satellite data. The first data are now publicly available through WasteMAP, read all about it here: www.sron.nl/en/actueel/n....
New methane satellite data supporting waste emission mitigation now publicly available - SRON | Space Research Organisation Netherlands
Methane emissions from landfills are a key contributor to climate change. In the TWOS project, SRON works together with the Global Methane Hub, GHGSat, and local partners to support mitigation of those emissions using satellite data. The first data are now publicly available through the WasteMAP platform.
