Reducing those large (as well as smaller) leaks is necessary to reduce emissions of methane and slow down climate change on a short timescale.

Also featured is the important work done by JAXA, NIES, LSCE, Sharon Wilson, and EDF. Using a combination of satellites, aircraft, and on-ground follow-up can bring vital information to mitigate large methane leaks in the oil & gas industry.

The report references papers first-authored by Berend Schuit, Daniel Varon, and Sudhanshu Pandey and builds on the work done by many others. Tracking air pollution with Sentinel-5P TROPOMI is featured as well.

For that to optimally happen, a lot of people have come together and it has been great connecting with a lot of them in Baku. We are looking forward to continuing that work to together support the so urgently needed methane emission reductions.
