At the bottom right edge you'll see the cloudy third eyelid (nictitating membrane) safely stowed away
This flips up over the eye as the Heron slams its beak into the water, protecting the eyes

It’s Day 29 since the first chick sighting and as of today, the nest is now empty. The oldest chick and Mum are spending the day on the neighbour’s climbing frame, while Dad is with the other two on a branch in the nesting tree. #tawnyfrogmouth #birds

This Great Egret had an unique style of fishing. Instead of standing still, this bird was flying and then diving head first into the lake, flying up a few feet and then diving again. I watched this bird do this several times in a row until he/she was successful with a panfish.
