Zoom the eye
(Try not to get lost in it)
The all seeing all directions eye!

At the bottom right edge you'll see the cloudy third eyelid (nictitating membrane) safely stowed away

This flips up over the eye as the Heron slams its beak into the water, protecting the eyes

Western Sandpiper. Victoria, British Columbia.

Instead of probing for worms, Western sandpipers use a fringed, spiny tongue to scrape a slimy layer of algae called biofilm off the surface of mudflats.

A Paisley Grey Heron making the day brighter.

We think daughter is operating the camera, and not the Heron, but we've asked for confirmation of that.

It’s Day 29 since the first chick sighting and as of today, the nest is now empty. The oldest chick and Mum are spending the day on the neighbour’s climbing frame, while Dad is with the other two on a branch in the nesting tree. #tawnyfrogmouth #birds

This Great Egret had an unique style of fishing. Instead of standing still, this bird was flying and then diving head first into the lake, flying up a few feet and then diving again. I watched this bird do this several times in a row until he/she was successful with a panfish.

I spotted a Great Blue Heron on Central Park's Pool early in the morning. It was explaining something important to this Mallard and fully extended its six-foot wingspan! Wowza! 💙💜💙 #Herons #CentralPark #birding

Heronkind, when they've had their fill of fish, challenge each other to fly as fast and as low as possible. The wing slice 💦 in the water must be subtle, but clean, to win highest score
