It may be a window into the etiquette of his handlers and courtiers that he believes these are IQ tests which he takes under his own initiative, perhaps after being prompted with a list of minorities and women that he can ostensibly prove himself against.

The party of Trump represents a break with traditional restraint, but the impulses given free rein under 45/47 are not alien to the party of the Bushes, Reagan, and Nixon. A few Republicans have admirably drawn a line, but the vast majority do not. It's fair to ask why they don't.

There are discontinuities, it is true, but there is also a Supreme Court majority enabling the descent into fascism, half of which was appointed by the comparatively norm-bound 41st and 43rd presidents. If even one of those justices was pushing back, you'd have a stronger argument.
