I write high-concept British Urban Fantasy that warps the familiar into the fantastical.

My standalone debut, The Terminus Of All Things, is a mind-bending urban portal fantasy set in the chaotic, dystopian world of Endland, a mirror version of England.
I've often advised indie authors who are struggling to finish/publish their book to set a deadline and create a sense of urgency.

But it works the other way too. My new novel COULD be ready within 6 weeks but I've announced a date of Feb 16th. It will be all the better for breathing.

Does anything say "Christmas is here" like the wall of panatone at TK Max?

Endland is a mirror version of England-a resting place for forgotten brands, products, and beliefs. A chaotic realm built on the discarded remnants of English society. But is it The Terminus Of All Things?

I've learned that being an indie author is basically juggling...

Ball 1 - writing next book
Ball 2 - editing current book
Ball 3 - publishing reader magnet
Ball 4 - marketing first book
Ball 5 - planning all the future books

Why should urban fantasy The Terminus Of All Things deserve a spot in your TBR?

Because there's nothing else like it.

Reviewers are calling it:

"highly original"
"unlike anything you've read recently...or ever!"
"a quiet surprise"

Oh, it's on KU as well.

It feels as though we invent new genres the whole time, and normally I shy away from that.

But today I learned that my novel is genuinely SalvagePunk and I am totally leaning into that.

Cobbled-together aesthetic. Falling society. Reuse. Repurpose.

The cover of The Terminus Of All Things (British urban fantasy - portals - dystopia - nostalgia) is one of the loveliest things I've ever been a part of. And now I'm doing it all again for my new novel, Curious Physiologies.

The Terminus Of All Things is nostalgic British urban fantasy. What happens to brands when they die? How do you make room for human creativity? And what happens when there isn't room for new ideas any longer? Spoiler alert: it's not good.

When I wrote my first novel it was easy. The only distraction was real life. Now I'm just starting my third the only distractions are editing the second, writing a novella, and marketing the first! And real life.

I finished writing the first book in my new series yesterday. By 'finished' I mean 'went back and filled in all the bits I had labelled as WRITE LATER'.

Following the drama today as TikTok shop switches their delivery partner from Evri to Royal Mail (in the UK) and thousands of indie authors are suddenly dealing with underpaid postage, fewer drop off points, and dubious customer support. (Do not read this as an Evri endorsement!)

Did a live editing session today on TikTok. Two hours, lots of wonderful company and help. Three books sold. I call that a win!

Oh, not much editing done, but you can't have it all.

It's always filled me with a bizarre sense of pride that my local city has such a bonkers, pointless, but beautiful, location-appropriate structure. And it's the last thing the character Jack sees before he's sucked to Endland, in my novel The Terminus Of All Things.

Would you read a book that was:
* Urban fantasy
* Quirky British nostalgia
* Emerging dystopia
* Non-stop action
* Super slow burn romance

Yes? You would?

There is a short story set in the Endland universe of 'The Terminus Of All Things', and you can get it completely free when you join my mailing list at www.jayneill.com.

'There Are Worse Crimes Than Murder' takes place during the first half of Terminus, showing a different side of Endland.

I've taken to editing my latest urban fantasy, live on TikTok. It's crap for productivity, but awesome for crowdsourcing a thesaurus!
