Whooping cough sucks, even mild cases. The kids who die from it have a combination of the worst respiratory distress, and cardiac effects that are a struggle to support even with ECMO. The decrease in cases after the rec for pregnant moms to get boosted was wonderful.

So like, residents understand that benzos aren't lowering the patient's HR, RR and agitation bcz they're controlling the patient's PAIN, right???
Bcz when I call and ask to increase the morphine per PAACT notes, the response shouldn't be "just give the PRN ativan early - it seems to work best"
