I heard CBC's Piya Chattopadhyay do a great interview with
with Prof. Jason Stanley at UofT's Monk School.

He spoke about the US' descent into authoritarianism and how experts could see it unfold and how it's so similar to other recent cases around the world.

“the feds need to hustle to prepare a fallback strategy in case the USMCA is sent to the knacker’s yard.”
Said otherwise, Carney’s domestic & US strategy are both based on outdated ideas (protecting the USMCA, austerity, deregulation) that are completely inappropriate in our current moment.

Three stories in poor air quality and wildfires on the 8am CBC news.

No mention of N95s. No mention of air cleaners.

Climate change is real. But nobody wants to talk about solutions or mitigations.

I was very happy to work with Maclean's on this one - there are many reasons why Canada is having one of the biggest measles outbreaks in the world (and the biggest in the global North), and our lack of a national vaccine registry is one of them.
Canada’s the only G7 country without a national vaccination registry—here's why one doctor says we need one, stat. macleans.ca/society/heal...

Spending more on defence, less on ??? www.cbc.ca/news/politic...
How much less?
Campaign platform: cap spending growth to 2% a year.
Today: 7.5% in spending cuts by April (2026-27), 10% less in 2027-28, 15% less in 2028-29.
What will go?

Anyone else worried that, because Canadian voices are less than 4% of BlueSky, we are so distracted by the louder voices from 🇺🇸 that we are neglecting the rise of fascism at home?

We may not be buying American products but Canadians are buying antidemocratic ideas.

How do you write an entire article on this without telling readers that it is:

1. A violation of the UN Charter & our obligations as a UN member-state

2. A violation of Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, & our obligations as a signatory of that document

So. Much. Stenography. So. Much. Normalization.
The attacks President Trump aimed at Canada extended beyond imposing more tariffs on America’s neighbor and NATO ally, and laid out in the clearest terms yet his vision for annexing Canada and making it part of the U.S.

No one is panicking. We're preparing, because the US is clearly a rogue state. The mere notion of invasion, along with the trade war they've started, is a betrayal and has demolished our relationship.
I don't think it will happen but Americans really need to understand why even a sub-1% chance of America trying to annex them forcefully might make Canadians panic.
I’ll tell you what everybody: If Donald Trump invades Canada, I’ll come here and personally apologize to all the people frothing at me right now. Feel better?

The tariff delay is not the reprieve some think it is. US automakers have been told to find new suppliers during the delay. This means Canada’s auto sector is being eroded every day of the delay. Look for telltale signs as this slow burn happens.
