Yes! One more: If you donate cans, etc. remember to donate a range of sizes. Big cans will always go to families, while singles (esp unhoused) need smaller cans with pop tops. Yes, smaller is more expensive per ounce, but singles and unhoused won't get/can't carry big cans.

Former food pantry staffer here: Either send cash directly or look up a pantry's "most needed items" before donating the canned yams you nor anyone else wants to eat. My grocery store has a check-out option to donate to our local pantry, which makes it ridiculously easy to boost their buying power.

I worked at a Lutheran church when my kids were small (ELCA) and the senior pastor's MO was: I give and don't obsess that it may be a scam because I'm doing what is right, plus I can't see into someone else's soul. His advice has stayed with me.

I will do anything for public libraries because they represent the very best of our society: decency, curiosity, care for our neighbors, empathy. They're a rare place where there is no pressure to buy things or to be anyone other than yourself.
