Made me think of this. As long as it's a sigh, you'll be fine.

"One of those arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement was Martin Morales, a Montgomery resident who owns Martin Morales Wood Flooring Inc." I had no idea flooring craftsmen were such dangerous criminals, but there you go.

I read first thing in the morning now. This priority works for me. Tense today: word reached Octavius that Caesar has been murdered.

I'm a little more than halfway through North Woods and enjoying the ride. Is it just me or is this one of the most memento mori novels circulating these days?

Going in. Third attempt but this will be the one. Spouse's fav "reread" book. 1,461 pages and intrigue starts from the jump. Per spouse I will be fine if I can just get to the part where Dantès is imprisoned. Will this be another Ulysses? I could never get beyond page 100 in that. Loading carbs.

Finished reading and am released this sunny morning as if from a trance. Oh his control of language! Me being closer to life's landing than its take-off afforded me awareness and foresight not possible if I read this years ago. Age does not lessen the blows, however. Strong recommend.

Started reading Butcher's Crossing today. I have never in my reading life felt such feels from the jump. I know I'm gonna be real shook by this book. But hey I'll be fine (nervous laugh).

As Curly Howard would say, "The mail's here! The mail's here!" I'm excited to read Detective Novel and King Ludd's Rag. (The black sticker's lettering isn't picked up in my photo, but know that it says in glossy black: "And down with all kings but King Ludd!"

The Princess Bride is a longtime fav movie of mine. Spouse recently bought the book and said you gotta read it. Opens with the 30th anniversary introduction by Goldman (book was originally published 1973). What a tonic! A boon!

I get my reading in first thing. This morning was "The Rib and the Clay" by @johnchrostek.com via @malarkeybooks.bsky.social. This story should be slipped into an art history syllabus just to mess with people. I laughed. A lot. Should be an audio version, too.

Started Mother Noise this morning. Got a copy from my library. Knocked me a bit off balance. Thankful I came across it. @cindyhouse.bsky.social

"My God, to read without joy is stupid." John Williams

Thankful my library had a copy of Stoner. First time reader of Williams. This hits so different at my age. Love.

Currently reading. Wowee! Strong recommend.

Sounds easy enough until you're in the throes of it.

I'm in that sweet spot where I feel most alive: active submissions out in the world and rejection emails in my inbox.

I always liked this one.

I tried my hand at writing Valentine's Day stuff. Not a lot of success, for some reason.

Rogier van der Weyden's (died 1464, Netherlands) nativity scene with baby Jesus includes a crucifix on the rear wall. My guess is he either had a limited amount of paint and canvas or figured a way to satisfy two orders at once.

Former food pantry staffer here with donation tips:

Don't donate food you wouldn't want to eat yourself. Family sizes are important, but remember ready-to-eat single-serve items for singles and unhoused. Cash donations are loved: pantries have buying power and relations w/produce vendors we don't.
