Former AUV engineer - now restoring and mastering audio recordings.
I'm going the other way - but with self imposed limitations so that I don't go down too many rabbit holes. I dislike software that forces you to dive into pages and pages of parameters so I'm currently trying something with just basic virtual synths and my favourite free effects.

I wonder if they want to do some photogrammetry? My son will often take over 100 photos of just a few metres of landscape in order to create a 3D model of it. Google won't see any of them though.

I let go of very little music gear. And when I do, I find that someone has a hit record with the same instrument which means the gear that I couldn't give away is now worth a fortune.

Though I did get rid of lots of old studio tat like cassette cases and CD drives for reasonable money recently.

I guess @nerdysynthdude.bsky.social fits the description.

Back in the 80s I was in a synth duo called Desperate Remedies where we used a Juno with backing tracks on a Revox behind us (like OMD). I'm enjoying limiting myself to what I had then but hopefully I can now play a little better.

There are good and bad with both. Go with whatever you like the sound of. Personally I'd pop into Andertons and try things but then I have the luxury of it probably being my nearest music shop (and where I bought my first electric guitar).

He's been a politician for long enough to know that he should have given a politician's answer - unless he had a different agenda.

I wonder how this compares with historical levels of elderly renters? When I was growing up I remember that a few of my grandparents' friends were privately renting their homes.

We always said that we would only let our son play computer games if he had written them himself - which is exactly what he did!

Though nowadays, as a teenager, he gets more enjoyment out of all kinds of programming rather than playing games.

Get those Maxell's transferred pronto - many of mine have deteriorated while other makes in the same box have been fine.

I'll also be very interested in all the thoughts here as I'd guess most contributors have been promoting their material much more than I have.

I'm thinking of adding a post about our experience to a long running SOS forum thread following the songwriting process from idea to release and beyond www.soundonsound.com/forum/viewto...

However, after a BBC Introducing play and some other Internet radio play, it quickly emerged that people were expecting to find it on the more mainstream sites so we rushed it out on those too. After a flurry in the first couple of weeks, our plays have dropped off.

I've been dipping my toe into releasing our own original material after years of working on other people's music. The original intention was to just let it escape on a Bandcamp only compilation and then see what happened.

And right on cue - we've just had his exam place approved for next summer's subject. But summer 2027 will be the critical one with 3 subjects planned for the same time.

I could have popped out to Aldi and picked up all I wanted in that time. Is there a human writing down all the bookings by hand at the other end of that?

I saw a worrying post about this from Faregos a couple of days ago. I'm hoping that, as we've already started doing exams with them, we will be able to continue. We've deliberately chosen less popular exam boards in some cases in the hope that there will be more spaces.

If a company has to resort to being on Checkatrade to get business then it is probably dodgy.

My not so new Hyundai EV shows the nearest charging station on its display. I was surprised to find recently that not all EVs do this.

My lad is interested in the challenges of hacking but wonders if there are legal ways to do it? Something like security testing perhaps?

We continued that tradition with my father when he moved away to Devon. He couldn't hear on the phone or see well enough to write so we ended up with a collection of cassettes recording his progress over the years.

Back in the 1960s it was common for people posted overseas to send talking letters on reel to reel tapes to families back home. Nowadays those tapes are often the only remaining way to hear their voices.
