Market reaction so far is calmly positive. GBP up a small but significant amount vs USD, EUR, and basket. 10-year gilt yields down 6pts on this morning, 30-year gilts down 9pts. Traders seem to like increased headroom and midde-of-the-roadness of it all.

Yes, there are spending multipliers etc - and yes, Kuenssberg spouted vacuous talking points.

BUT.

There is a bond market (or more generally a macro) constraint to borrowing, as there was in the 2010s - we just weren't near it then. Dodging the issue/pretending it doesn't exist isn't a policy.
@zackpolanski.bsky.social on the importance of spending multipliers & borrowing to invest

Zack is, without doubt, a great communicator. And on him talking about democracy & the bond markets I'm reminded of Eddie Dempsey at the Durham Miners Gala when he asked "who elected the bond market?"

Farage can now be easily boxed in to a corner where his only ‘defence’ becomes: “Yes I spouted Kremlin propaganda & Putin worship but, unlike Nathan Gill, I didn’t need bribes to do it.”
It is, once again, a question of whether interviewers have the temerity to shut down his whining obfuscations.

“Did you, in your roles as his boss, friend, mentor & party leader, ever question his full-throated support for an enemy of the UK and if not, why not?”

You can have those for nothing, lads.

Last week Trump said: "We'll sue [BBC] for anywhere between $1bn and $5bn, probably sometime next week."

That renewed threat was led a good deal of news media.

No news report yet that any suit has been filed.
