Launching my sister’s new book this Fri at Parliament House. It tells the funny, fascinating story of the 1st women elected to fed parliament & the absolute absurdity they faced on day one: there were no women’s loos. If you’re into politics, inclusion or a cheeky bit of toilet humour, come along 😄

I thought I'd watch three minutes of Andrzej Bargiel skiing down Mount Everest... and ended up watching the whole thirty minutes! Refreshing to see @redbull.com producing videos without AI filler, clickbait or performative drivel... the production feels like a nature doc – really wonderful stuff.

The Cable Car returns! I propose a “vista infringement” trial: one year with a giant inflatable cable car dangling in front of the Organ Pipes. Must be entirely taxpayer-funded. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Let’s see if it really would be the monstrosity we’ve been promised.

How long is an acceptable amount of time to wait for a burger 🍔 getting close to 20 minutes and I’m hangry

Yes, Fullers and the Hobart Book Shop are cool, also love Déjà vu and Cracked and Spineless - but would it really be that uneconomical for Sandy Bay to have its own book store?

Thought I’d borrow an e-bike through the HCC e-bike library… saw I had to wait until December, thought, yeah that’s reasonable, then clicked to book… and its for December 2026!! Who is waiting over a year for a 2 week e-bike hire 🫠 www.hobartebikelibrary.com.au/shop/

Remind me again why the empty, inbound Metro buses returning from the Taroona High run can’t pick up passengers along Sandy Bay Road on their way back to the Moonah depot? They have to pass through the CBD anyway…

Seeing how tiny the Spirit IV is in comparison to the cruise ships we’re used to seeing in Hobart really drives home just how much more inept the Devonport lot responsible for building its berth are than previously imagined

Even when the sun is out in Tasmania, you bring your coat from the car to the office because you know there is every chance it might be freezing and hailing in a matter of moments

Looking forward to getting back to the polls! Tempted to move to Lyons just so I can not vote for the pro-gun, anti-renewables, climate-denying candidate

While voting for indies and minor parties has recently been championed as a way to “send a message” to the major parties… here we see it can also have the unintended consequence of elevating fringe voices… 😬
New Tasmanian MP says gun law reform a priority for crossbench deal
Newly elected Shooters, Fishers and Farmers MP Carlo Di Falco says gun law reform will be one of his bargaining chips when he negotiates support for Tasmania's next government.

Sydney is know has the Harbour City, Melbourne the City of Literature and Adelaide the City of Churches… I guess that leaves Hobart as the City of Unbuilt Renders 😐

My sister’s first book arrived! It’s a children’s story about Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney, the first women elected to parliament – who had little in common ideologically but found they had one thing in common: no ‘Ladies’ loos in Parliament House.

Across the most recent 12-month window of flight data (Mar 2024 – Feb 2025), Canberra handled 2.83m passengers and Hobart 2.77m – a difference of just 56k travellers. I knew the gap was small… but didn’t think that small!

Absolutely surreal to have lived through the Napster days and watched as the titans of industry moved hell and high water to lock down any possible chance that someone's song might get swapped online without giving the studios a cut and now those same people are just like "well we gotta steal music"

Melbourne GPO (1861-1907). First two floors are constructed from Tasmanian sandstone quarried in Orford. The third floor and tower are later additions, sourced from Melbourne’s first quarries. The Orford stone is noticeably whiter in real life.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The Metro bus service in #Hobart has just turned on real-time tracking. as of 11.20, there is not a single bus on the Eastern Shore between the Tasman and Bowen Bridge. And you wonder why people use cars.

Tasmania’s buses should stay in public hands, but be franchised like Metro Trains Melbourne. The private operator is paid to deliver, rewarded for good service, and penalised for poor performance – keeping taxpayers in control of the network.
