Launching my sister’s new book this Fri at Parliament House. It tells the funny, fascinating story of the 1st women elected to fed parliament & the absolute absurdity they faced on day one: there were no women’s loos. If you’re into politics, inclusion or a cheeky bit of toilet humour, come along 😄

Remind me again why the empty, inbound Metro buses returning from the Taroona High run can’t pick up passengers along Sandy Bay Road on their way back to the Moonah depot? They have to pass through the CBD anyway…

My sister’s first book arrived! It’s a children’s story about Enid Lyons and Dorothy Tangney, the first women elected to parliament – who had little in common ideologically but found they had one thing in common: no ‘Ladies’ loos in Parliament House.

Melbourne GPO (1861-1907). First two floors are constructed from Tasmanian sandstone quarried in Orford. The third floor and tower are later additions, sourced from Melbourne’s first quarries. The Orford stone is noticeably whiter in real life.

Scenes from Boyer. It had a lot more character than I expected!

Some cinema history: Hoyts MidCity ran in the T&G basement from 1982-1992ish. A 400-seat, single-screen cinema, it was opened to take on Village’s new West End Twin (Tassie's first multiplex) just down the road. Needless to say, Village won. The lights of the T&G clock tower are finally working again! Now they just need to fix the time…

Last time I checked, they were building this... so this newer render feels better - I like that the original building gets to survive in this new timeline

The astroturf on the new Huonville roundabout was a nice touch. Won’t date at all.

King Island Dairy has new local owners who are excited for the future. A rare day in news, filming a positive story from an out-of-reach location. Obligatory shot of the media squad at the airport, ready for some cheese.

No buses again today either… been here since 8:15 and will now likely be late to work. Three scheduled buses just haven’t arrived

From high school, fell out of a record sleeve this morning. Proof that going to the cinema has always been expensive! #filmsky #filmhistory

Snapped this image of George Davis’ 150,000-tile mural being covered for protection before the building is demolished for apartments. Built in 1960 for the ABC, who vacated in the mid-80s. Tassie has few television buildings left—a topic I’m exploring in the next issue of Australian Cinematographer.

Could someone please open an American-style diner in Huonville that serves locally-made hot apple pie and drip coffee all day? Bonus points if they install flashing Hartz Cola neons and a jukebox that only plays Jean Stafford

Hobart vs other cities that provide e-scooter charging station infrastructure. Likely of interest @ryan-posselt.bsky.social

In the wise words of Obi Wan Kenobi, your eyes can deceive you - don’t trust them! Deep in the paper edit this week for my doco feature. Any documentary filmmakers out there willing to share their editing processes with me right now are very welcome #filmmaking #documentary #creativeprocess

Burnie becoming a renewables Mecca is as incidental as Tasmania’s now nationally revered hydro. Still, it’s great to see new industry in what I remember from childhood as being one of Australia’s most polluted towns. Via @pulsetasmania.bsky.social
