Finished! I really love this one. It's even cooler than it looked in my head. The woman in the black and white photo is my grandmother, who died before I was born. She was responsible for saving all of the mother of pearl buttons used in this piece.

CALLED IT!!!!! CALLED IT!!!!

We went from "it's not happening" to "it's too late" in the blink of the eye! Fuck these guys--remember they are LYING FOR MONEY and it's never too late to reduce emissions!

Things get more bad as we fling more carbon into the atmosphere on a sliding scale!
Please sit down before you read this post.

So.

The CEO of Exxon-Mobil just said this in an interview: "We’ve waited too long to open the aperture on the solution sets in terms of what we need, as a society, to start reducing emissions."

There's more... 🧵

Exxon Mobil CEO on the 'dirty secret' of Net Zero: 'People who are generating the emissions need to be aware ... and pay the price'
"The dirty secret nobody talks about is how much all this is going to cost and who's willing to pay for it," Darren Woods said on Fortune’s Leadership Next podcast.

A society that loved children and/or the future would do almost everything different from this one with it's Gaza ceasefire vetoing, library stripping, health care denying, gigantic car speeding, climate foot dragging, chemical recklessness, etc, etc, etc.

Reminder that everything Atwood described as a horrific dystopian possibility for white women had already happened to Black & Brown women around the globe (including in these united states.)

And also that the novel, if read carefully, makes clear that Black & Brown ppl have been eradicated.

They knew.

They lied.

Recycling was never the answer.

Now there’s microplastics in our food, in the air we breathe and in our blood and choking the ocean.

And STILL, Coca Cola etc sell 1 billion single-use bottles EVERY YEAR in NZ.
‘They lied’: plastics producers deceived public about recycling, report reveals
Companies knew for decades recycling was not viable but promoted it regardless, Center for Climate Integrity study finds

Makes me even more grateful for the local cut flower CSAs popping up in my area and my own little flower garden.
"Compared with other perishables we transport around the world, flowers are perhaps the most damaging to the climate. The reason? Nearly everything else moves by ship, which has 1 percent the carbon footprint of air freight."
