Trump just went on Fox and said radical right extremism is justified as a response to the left. If Trump wanted to explicitly encourage the right to wage violent open warfare on the left as payback for Kirk, he couldn't have done much better than that.

Trump Just Went on Fox and Issued an Unnerving Threat Against Liberals
At a time when right-wing extremists are calling for open season on liberals and the left, the president of the United States just told them: Hey, go for it.

A year ago today, @kamalaharris.com took on the impossible task of trying to win a presidential election in just 107 days, just 77 days until early voting began, while building the campaign while she was running it & introducing herself to voters. She nearly made the impossible possible. 1/

Kamala Harris: The courage of Americans who are speaking out to say, it is not ok to violate court orders. Saying it is not ok to detain and disappear American citizens or anyone without due process. The courage of judges to uphold the rule of law in the face of those who would jail them.

Kamala Harris: So look, some people are describing what's been happening in recent months as absolute chaos. And of course I understand why. And it's certainly true of those tariffs. Tariffs that, as I predicted, are clearly inviting a recession.

20,000 people showed up yesterday in Salt Lake City. We the People are ready to defend our democracy. Thank you Bernie and AOC for stepping up to the serious threat we face as a nation.

The fight going on in the Democratic Party right now is not between hard left, left and moderate. It’s between those who want to fight and those who want to cave. And Team Fight stretches across all ideological aspects of the Party. Misread this at your own peril.

Easy to lose this in the noise of the day, but the prime minister of Canada just said the US president, leader of the global hegemon, wants to soften us up economically so he can annex us.

That is one of the most remarkable statements, and realities, in our history.

With Trump in full control of the GOP, I wrote about one state that stands out as an exception: Utah.

Mormon voters - lifelong Republicans - are moving away from Trump, while center-right groups there are reasserting themselves & clashing w/the MAGA wing.

A Lonely Holdout Where Republicans Still Resist Trump: Utah
Bolstered by Mormon voters’ distaste for MAGA politics, the center-right is trying to reassert itself in a ruby-red state.

Trudeau: I think Canadians are a little perplexed as to why our closest friends and neighbors are choosing to target us.

I don’t think there are a lot of Americans who wake up in the morning saying, "Oh, damn Canada. Oh, we should really go after Canada."

If the FBI gets purged of almost all of its agents, they will be replaced. The current vetting process for agents is onerous. But that can be changed, and there’s really nothing stopping a director from handing every Jan. 6 pardonee, or any other yahoo, a badge and a gun (and TS clearance)

This is unsettling indeed, and because of the political implications. The way the US devolves into competitive authoritarianism is with a media landscape that makes it extremely difficult for the opposition to get a fair shot at winning elections, and this is closer than many seem to realize.
Unsettling from @anneapplebaum.bsky.social:Trump isn't just trying to bully the media into submission. He's also conditioning the public to see the use of state power to cow independent truth telling as normal, and persuading MAGA to see it as good.
