It’s disconcerting that my whole feed is talking about a college essay that literally no one outside of Bluesky has even heard about. This app is weird and largely unrelated to even slightly less online populations.

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to appropriately convey how utterly exhausting it is to be a transgender person in this moment. I spent a few years thinking maybe cis people are more accepting than I thought, and I will never make that mistake again.

The model of holding individual senators responsible is broken here. The retirees clearly agreed to take the fall. Which is why the nos should get no credit for voting no unless they move to oust Schumer

This x1000. They had so many people backing them in a righteous fight. Now? IDK, maybe they did just shut it down to make people miserable.
Caving for nothing means that Democrats are the ones responsible for the shutdown because they could have taken this shit deal weeks ago.

They shut down the government for nothing. Literally nothing.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

Every time we win, we have to lose 10 things as punishment. I think I’m kinda done, tbh.

Come on. Like, I wish, but people aren’t even going to remember this in a month (if they ever noticed it at all - most Americans didn’t even know the government was shut down). There are no consequences anymore. That’s what makes all of this so much worse.
Even the senators who are retiring and think they won't have to face the wrath of furious Democratic voters should know that their last name is about to become so toxic that not even a goddamn nonprofit is going to want you on the board.
I think Senate folders are significantly underestimating how fucking angry Democratic voters are at them

They truly do not care, at all, to understand trans people’s well-documented lived experiences of violence. Just the most willful ignorance imaginable.

It’s amazing how exhilarating learning a new skill is.

I was listening to a Planet Money episode where this college-age kid decided not to go to law school bc he thinks that job will go away with AI. And it made me sad for him, but also, it made me realize that people really do not know what lawyers do.

Listening to an NPR pod where they’re talking about how, sure, crime is down factually, but people don’t *feel* like it’s down, so Democrats need to address that. Motherfucker, people NEVER thing crime is down. In fact they ALWAYS think it’s up. We have to get tough on crime that isn’t real now?

Narcissists are exhausting mostly because of band of die-hard followers they tend to collect. It’s a personality disorder that works on a lot of people.

They were, in fact, very painful to listen to. It is not beyond question that causing despair, exhaustion, the desire to end one’s life, is part of the point here. Make queers feel that they are so unwanted that death would be better.
These Supreme Court oral arguments on conversion therapy are going to be painful. No matter what is said, know that trying to force someone to be what they're not is psychological torture with measurable negative consequences, and anyone trying to defend such efforts is a bigoted monster.

Similar reasons: I love where I live, my community is here, I feel relatively safe in my city, I have the job that I’ve always wanted (in a profession that would not transfer to another country).

I also hate the idea of letting the bad guys win. I fucking belong here as much as anyone.
I'm realizing a grim exercise/prompt may be in this ...

If others want to share, I'm curious:

Why aren't *you* leaving america (yet)?

Asking for trans folks in particular, especially those of us on HRT and/or other very directly threatened in terms of our healthcare ...

Reposts welcomed. Sigh.
If i were 22, I'd maybe just bail on america. I'm 38 is the problem and I love my life here. My house, my gardens, my dogs. This is where I built my adult existence ...

A huge part of the reason I will never go rural/suburban again. Mass transit and walkable/bikeable communities are awesome. My health is better since moving back to a city, plus I feel more connected to my neighborhood & community.
People in the US won't believe this, but a society requiring people to own a motor vehicle to get anywhere actually gives you LESS freedom than a society where you can safely walk, bike, or feasibly opt to take mass transit.
If you're a slave to your car, you're also a slave to your job.

I accidentally took someone else’s food at the ice cream shop tonight. They called out my exact order, but when I sat down to eat, it was a version of my order that was like… deconstructed and with more? Anyway, thought it was just my lucky night and they messed up.

If you call a school, speak with the principal…they will let you do this since our legislature hates children. We do it every year and have been since my kid was in 2nd grade. We do what we can afford and just have them pay off what they can…

I know I’m losing it, but I keep wondering: if the Cubs win the World Series again, does that close the gate to hell that they opened in 2015, or open yet another?

All this because Democrats couldn’t stomach making a Muslim man a judge.

As someone who excitedly voted for Rahm for Chicago mayor in 2011: he can fuck off forever.
Rahm Emanuel sits down with [checks notes] George Will to test the waters for a possible 2K28 presidential run. That epitomizes the state of the Democratic Party on a national level these days. wapo.st/44DBxqw

Oh, cool, SCOTUSblog posted an opinion piece on Skrmetti by Erin Hawley (Christian fundamentalist asshole married to Josh Hawley) entitled “The Supreme Court reaffirms that biology matters”. Guess my days of anxiety-watching their liveblog on opinion days are done.
