Tumblr user nocryptographer: I talked with someone who works in book publishing, and they mentioned they get a lot of AI slop these days. I asked how they know what's human-written, and they said that there's one thing that will reveal AI slop without error, and that's the author not knowing their own creation. A real author can talk about their story for hours. They love to elaborate every character, every twist, every detail. Because those existed in their head long before they ever made it to the paper. They were loved before they were written. AI slop wasn't. It was just vomited into existence. Someone who generates their story with AI will never bond with their story the way real writers do. That's why they may not know what to say when they're asked why did the character do this, or even remember the scene in the first place. It's something they read, not something they wrote. And to a writer, those are not the same. There's a unique bond between the creator and the creation. If your writing doesn't come of you, you'll always lack that. I keep hearing soon we won't be able to tell. And perhaps, in a superficial sense, that's true. But there is a difference. It's not em dashes or repeated words. It's whether the story was made by someone who loves it and cares about it. If the writer's eyes light up when asked why did the character do that? and they start their very own Ted Talk about that specific scene... then it's real.

the entire comic is four pages and eleven panels long, rendered in black and white with gritty textured brushes. in this page, kaiba is sat at a booth at a restaurant and joey takes his order. kaiba says "I'll have the... fruit pancakes." joey replies "Da what? Dere's nuthin' on our menu named 'fruit pancakes'." kaiba says "Wheeler, the... the fresh fruit pancakes," looking frustrated. joey leans in to look at kaibas menu and says "Heh?", and kaiba points to it saying "this one", through gritted teeth, looking angry now. end of page with kaiba still slumped over and looking mad, joey covers his eyes and starts laughing quietly, then he leans back with uproarious laughter, and then slumps back forward, eyes still covered, and says "heh heh... say it." in the last panel the background starts growing darker from the bottom. end of page from here on, the backgrounds are all black with a very gritty texture. there's a very tight close up on kaibas wide eyes as he looks to the left, where joey is, and he says "What?" you can just barely see Joey's evil smirk through his fingers when he says "Say. It." in the last panel, the point of view has changed angles, so the lower half of kaibas face is obscured by his collar, and his shoulders are slumped nervously forward. he's wide-eyed and sweaty, mortified. in four broken up speech bubbles, he says "I'd like a... a r-... a rootie t-... tootie..." end of page this page only has two panels, the last of which takes up two thirds of the page. joey cuts kaiba off by yelling "Say it like you mean it!!", with a clenched fist. kaiba is now pictured standing alone in a dark void, hands gripping his head in fear and sweating profusely. we're looking down at him from a higher angle with a fish eye lens, and he looks like he's about to snap. he says "i-i want a... a r- rooty tooty... f-fresh 'n... f-fruity..." end page
