As long as you're turning off your extended family's TV's motion smoothing setting, make sure to take a peek at their power strips. Very, very common to see $2000 worth of electronics plugged into a $10 surge protector that wore out a decade ago.
My Dad skeet of the day: the protective power of surge protectors wears out over time, *without* causing the power strip to stop working. Rule of thumb: if you can't remember when you bought that old power strip, it probably is *not* actually protecting the things plugged into it and needs replaced.
