Turning off Desktop & Document sync in iCloud instantly fixed the issue for me. Everything became snappy again.
With Optimize Mac Storage & Desktop Sync turned On, performance improved slightly but was still only about half as fast as normal.

Running macOS 26.1 and noticing the file browser is painfully slow when closing, saving, or opening files. Plenty of SSD space and no memory-hogging apps. Restart didn't help. Anyone else seeing this?
