We did this musical my senior year in high school. I was Joe/Josephine/Jr.

Not only so much fun, but it introduced me to the great Billy Wilder.

Let's break this stupidity down.

You're shopping for shampoo. Do you want moisturizing? Dandruff control? 2-in-1? Are you willing to pay 50c more for MCI free or guava extract?

Great. Good job. You did your research, decided what shampoo features were important to you, and bought a bottle...
Cassidy: "If she goes and gets 2 types of shampoo & one is a dollar cheaper, she'll get the cheaper one & the other lowers their price. Once you give her the power of making the decision, she's gonna shop -- that begins to save her money and squeezes waste out of the healthcare system."

Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

GARBO LAUGHS!

Ernst Lubitsch’s NINOTCHKA had its world premiere in New York City #OnThisDay in 1939. Greta Garbo stars with Melvyn Douglas and a terrific lot of supporting players.

This seems to be their new angle: Obamacare enriches the insurance companies! We should give money directly to Americans!

What can those Americans do with that money? If they want health coverage, they'll buy health insurance from a health insurance company.

They're so unserious about healthcare.

I'm going to commit this argument to memory. IDs are for identifying people RIGHT NOW.
And why exactly is the sex at birth, as opposed to their sex now, at all relevant to identifying, say, a fifty year old woman on DOCUMENTS THAT IDENTIFY HER.

I had blue eyes at birth. You know what my driver’s license says? Hazel. Because they changed, and one is useless for identifying me.

"the most productive of all time" says the Congress that just set the record for the longest shutdown in history....

And the title of the only major legislation they've passed actually calls out that it's just "One Big Bill". Just one.
Johnson: When we go into the midterms, we’re very bullish on the outcome. We have an extraordinary record to run on. The first nine months of this Congress and this administration, arguably the most productive of all time.

Because Wall Street historically loves sharing its gains with working Americans.
Bessent: "President Trump is promises made, promises kept on his campaign promises. And it's gonna start flowing through to working Americans next year. Wall Street has done great."

Americans want to watch charismatic people solve moderately difficult problems on a weekly basis. That’s it. And a group of fomo execs and techbros who don’t watch TV drove one of the most profitable industries in the US off a cliff rather than accept that.
Look what happenes when a TV show releases every year, with more than 8 episodes a season.

I am just a little bit of a media historian, but I've read enough to say that I think this has a pretty easy explanation: there was a time where if you wanted to be a movie exec you had to socially succeed with other movie people; now you have to socially succeed with finance and tech bros.
last 15 years feel like an experiment in putting individuals who don't know why people see movies in charge of getting people to see movies
David and Larry Ellisons’ sloptastic vision for Hollywood is coming into focus:

“Paramount has reportedly signed a $200M+ multiyear deal for Higgsfield AI to use mass-use Popcorn AI model that ingests dailies and script notes, then outputs regional cuts: new leads, alternate jokes, revised endings”

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

Biden once told a story about a man named "Cornpop" that he met in 1962 and the media was all "OMG has he completely lost it?!" but here's Trump saying all of Portland is on fire right now and there are no stores anymore but whatevs...

(and it turned out Cornpop was real)
Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

The 10/18 protests are No Kings rallies. We've already had a No Kings day of protests four months ago. Millions participated, nothing violent happened.

Saying that same rally next week will be filled with groups Trump is calling "terrorists" who "hate America" is setting the stage for something...
Mike Johnson: "This hate America rally that they have coming up for October 18? The antifa crowd, the pro-Hamas crowd, and the Marxists, they're all gonna gather on the Mall. It is an outrageous gathering for outrageous purposes ... all this has gotta come to an end."

Aside from the absurdity of trying to figure out how to implement this, does he think there's a set amount of films the world can make each year? Like, if India or South Korea makes five films in 2026 well dammit that's five films we can't make over here!
Waking up to one psychotic thing after another…
