Mais uma pérola da hfg. O título que ela critica é de um podcast, que ela confunde com um artigo. Típico!

Europe is ready to negotiate with the US.

We have offered zero-for-zero tariffs for industrial goods.

Because we're always ready for a good deal.

But we’re also prepared to respond with countermeasures.

And protect ourselves against indirect effects through trade diversion ⭣

The overarching view of investors I've spoken to over the last two days is that Trump risks pushing the US into recession

Combined with the existential security risks he's potentially creating for Ukraine - and Europe

Welcome to the new world

The United States must convince Russia to do this [30-day ceasefire]. That is, we agree, and if the Russians agree, the ceasefire will start at that very moment - President Zelenskyy.

Who says EU doesn't have agency? Big news from Berlin

€500bn fund for infrastructure confirmed

And debt brake has been abolished for defence (1% of GDP needs to come from budget. Everything above that can be borrowed, no upper limit)

And this just the beginning of the European response

“The EU wasn’t formed to screw anyone. Quite the opposite. It was formed to maintain peace, to build respect among our nations, to create free and fair trade, and to strengthen our transatlantic friendship. As simple as that.”

Reporter: Do you still think Zelenskyy is a dictator?

Trump: Umm did I say that? I can’t believe I said that. Next question

Today marks one year since Alexei Navalny’s sudden death in a Russian prison.

Alexei Navalny was a determined advocate for democracy and freedom in Russia.

We honour his memory and stand in solidarity with those who continue the fight for human rights and democracy.

The irony of the richest man in the world almost single-handedly destroying an agency designed to help the world’s poor, so that the U.S. federal budget has more room for another giant tax cut for the richest man in the world and his pals, should not be lost on anyone. [Cartoon by Mike Luckovich]

🇺🇦Zelenskyy pleads with Europeans to finally put aside the petty nationalism and unite to put themselves in charge of their own future.

"Some in Europe might be frustrated with 🇪🇺Brussels. But let’s be clear: If not Brussels, then Moscow. It’s your decision. That’s geopolitics. That’s history."

Time for Europeans to act
I’m in Munich and people keep asking me to decode Vance’s speech. OK: In Vance English “free speech” means “Let Musk run your elections” and “democracy” means “let Russia run your elections.” Now move on. 2025 is about what Europeans do, not what Americans say.

On Hegseth's comments, I would recommend re-reading the detailed briefing I wrote while at Munich a year ago. On whether Europe could defend itself without America, what that would require, and why leadership was as much of a problem as raw military power. www.economist.com/briefing/202...
Can Europe defend itself without America?
It would need to replace military aid, a nuclear umbrella and leadership
