More fossil fuel thuggery, this time aimed at Brown University, in the service of climate denial. “Shut up your researchers or we’ll sic the Trump administration on your funding.” Classy.

My lab's been attacked by an anti-wind group and their lawyers. They threatened the science funding of my whole university, to shut me and my undergraduate research assistants up.

NYT just covered it. 1/n

If there is one thing I hope the left learns in my lifetime, it’s that to become hegemonic, we have to become normie.

We won’t convince people to dramatically change their aesthetic or cultural attitudes; we will succeed when we articulate our values in forms they are most likely to appreciate.

I think about this from @naomiaklein.bsky.social a lot. "Conspiracy theorists get the facts wrong but often get the feelings right." The sense that people are gaining wealth from human suffering while concealing reality is valid, but the root problem isn't evil people but the nature of capitalism.

a nice reminder to the press that there is nothing you can do to pacify these people or buy yourself leniency
this appears to be based entirely on subscriptions for Politico Pro that many govt agencies pay for. but it doesn't matter, this is now fact for roughly half the country for eternity and will be used to do whatever they want.

in case you missed it: i got my hands on a draft executive order that major offshore wind opponents sent to the trump transition team

it would be a wrecking ball to the future of offshore wind and i have no reason to believe any of these proposals are off the table

Scoop: The Draft Order that Offshore Wind Opponents Sent to Trump
If even only a few of these ideas are enacted, it would be a harbinger of doom for wind energy in America.

"The fact that there are over 650 human beings of all ages living outside in the New England winter elements every day should be appalling to everyone."

Must-read work from @triofrancos.bsky.social and @aldasky.bsky.social on the mismatch between federal climate economics and the climate policies people actually need– especially on housing and energy.
The IRA, which expected corporations & affluent consumers to lead the transition, created a “Prius economy” (more renewables, more fossil fuels).

Instead, we need public sector provisioning of climate + economic security, from energy to transit to housing www.nytimes.com/2025/01/07/o...

🚨 What does anti-renewables activism look like these days, and why's it so strong on the East Coast?

Got on Bluesky to announce a NEW paper that identifies "information subsidies" flowing to local anti-wind groups. There's a lot more going on than just "dark money."
🚨New study alert! Can #greensky define ‘information subsidy’? Would you recognize ‘solutions denial’?

Here’s a thread on the networks opposing offshore wind in the Northeast USA, tracing how many of the discourses used against wind come from fossil fuels..

I know this will shock many of you... but Michael Shellenberger is attached to a sham front group ostensibly about protecting right whales that was only created a few years ago in order to keep offshore wind from out-competing natural gas.
