Roller derby, knitting, pregnancy loss
Statistics back up what anyone who has experienced repeated pregnancy loss knows intuitively: that with each subsequent pregnancy, the chances of success get lower and lower

Tommy's have a useful tool for predicting the likely success of a pregnancy after miscarriage: www.miscarriagetool.tommys.org
I stopped using it after #4 because the numbers got too depressing

My 6th miscarriage was diagnosed in the same way as most of the others, during a scan at the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I had no worrying symptoms, no bleeding or pain, but it still felt inevitable

Oof. I have a lot of feelings about this. As a midwife, I think these companies are incredibly predatory and should be much more strictly controlled. As someone who is pregnant after miscarriages, I can't help myself from using them

Very interested to hear about the over-testing and diagnosis. Already something I worry about in maternity care, but anyone who has experienced pregnancy loss is so much more vulnerable to having tests and treatments 'just in case'

So far, we know of 5 women who have been killed because of their state's abortion bans, 4 of whom are women of color. That's not an accident. Abortion bans are intentionally racist, and Black women already have 3X greater maternal mortality rate than white women. This deadly result IS the point.

I cannot tell you how many times during miscarriage and fertility care I have given thanks that I live in the UK and not the USA

Just to drive home the point: Research into misinformation strongly suggests that you do not repeat lies, even to debunk them. Don't quote tweet or screenshot lies. Paraphrase or say someone said something false or objectionable, but repeating lies helps to spread them.

During my first one, the doctor kept referring to "the products". Glad to say he was an anomaly and I haven't experienced that from any of the other healthcare professionals I've interacted with

Afterwards, we sat outside waiting for my notes, and allowed ourselves to feel genuinely excited for a little while. I generally only get to have this feeling for a few hours after a positive scan, so it was nice to feel it after a different interaction with maternity services.

It was wonderful. I genuinely enjoyed the appt, even though we did skirt around a lot of the usual discussion that happens in a booking appt. She was exceptionally sensitive to the fact that I can't imagine being in my 2nd or 3rd trimester, and it's all just about getting to tomorrow, & next week.

But back to the midwife appointment. As I sat down, she asked "so how are you doing?" in a knowing way, confirmed she had reviewed my history, & said it was up to me if I wanted to discuss any of it. In the whole appt, the only thing she asked was the furthest gestation that I'd previously reached.

We had a viability scan, so there was confirmation of everything being ok, but it was several weeks ago now so it's increasingly difficult to rely on that result.

This time, I self-referred at 6 weeks, like most people do when finding out they are pregnant. We've been making a conscious effort to be positive, and my partner is really optimistic that it will be different this time, so I am trying to absorb that positivity!
