Maybe we can go with the visual Mandela effect, showing that our students can't identify the real Pikachu?

Prasad, D., & Bainbridge, W. A. (2022). The Visual Mandela Effect as evidence for shared and specific false memories across people. Psychological Science, 33(12), 1971-1988.

Hey cognitive psychologists. When does this mean we will no longer be able to ask people to draw a US penny? Always great to recreate the classic study by Nickerson & Adams (1979) showing that people can't recall an object they've looked at hundreds or thousands of times.

This ad from Chevron to power AI showing up in the @nytimes.com this morning.

The power demands of AI leading oil companies to offer more carbon pollution.

Not really the way to solve climate change.

So I’m doing a thing next week.

Speaking about how ordinary people can fight in the disinformation war. It’s more than just debunking.

It is warmer than usual and I had to put my fender on this morning.

Feeling offended by The NY Times Spelling Bee puzzle this morning.

It claims Pavlovian is not a word. While based on a name, it is a word on its own.

Yes I understand there might be a long-term game strategy of keeping healthcare as the main focus of the midterm elections next year.

But I am tired of treating people’s lives as political games.

Dems before the election, when they want your vote, fight to defend healthcare.

Dems after winning big in the elections? Rolling over without any concessions.

This was Shumer, the leader of the senate democrats, two days ago. He said they would fight. Today he led the democrats in the senate in rolling over.

Cookie took us for a walk around Lake Padden today. Just one of the beautiful parks to walk through in Bellingham.

President appeals to the Supreme Court to allow him to starve children. He argues that they should go to work in the coal mines for their gruel. Court will clearly take this concern seriously since Trump will be harmed by children being fed and there will be no harm to the children who starve.

This morning’s picture of Cookie with fall colors. From our walk in the forest.

Two opinion pieces in @nytimes.com today.

One on Pelosi and her ability to recognize the moment and set aside her own ego. She’s always been able to get things done and really hasn’t needed to make everything about her.

The other on Cuomo and good riddance. His ego was part of the problem.

And now the leaves from the tree are falling to the ground. Cookie says they are still a beautiful background for a picture.

Who’s going “who, who, who” in the city forest behind our house?

I managed to get my Merlin call recognition app to identify the owl as a great horned owl this morning.

We’ve seen the bird some days, especially when the ravens are mobbing it. When the name says ‘great’ it is a really big bird.
November 6, 2025 at 2:07 PM
Oh, so now the @nytimes.com is referring to Mamdani as a democrat without the socialist kicker?
November 5, 2025 at 5:12 AM
I know there's an election today.

But I'm just here for the sandwich discourse.

No baloney.

Kind of amusing that they go for the mural bit when their guy is actually hanging murals of himself on buildings like the authoritarian he is striving to be.

Dang. And concussion-like symptoms are often discussed on the internet.
November 4, 2025 at 2:37 PM
From the article. Each shot may be small but the effects add up. And the army is tracking consequences of a day of shooting.

Vote!

We voted in our local elections.

Vote while you still can.

We may have hit peak color on our backyard Japanese maple.

Who gets hurt as Trump decides to withhold available money for food stamps?

Children, elderly, and the working poor.

People who aren’t yet working, people who used to work at low wage jobs, people currently in low wage jobs.

Walmart employees. Pay living wages!

Our local brewery has their winter beer out now, called Kitten Mittens.

Plus a little of their OctoberFest beer still available. Angie and I were both happy to sip a beer after hitting tennis balls this evening.
