One of the more fascinating bits I’ve learned being part of the Rust language Bluesky community is just how weird some of the detractors are. There’s personally not liking a technology (that’s fine!) and then there’s equating C/C++ with manliness and Rust is a woke mind virus.

I am approaching feature complete for reading Bolt databases in my rust better-bbolt project. It’s weird to be back at the basics after my first attempt. I like seeing how my development and architecture skills have grown since then.
It’s a bit like reading a fanfic I wrote in my teens, too. Cringe

This week I learned that Rust can do lifetime tracking with traits. A struct referencing no lifetimes, say an Arc wrapper, can still be made to respect a parent lifetime without explicitly holding the lifetime in a PhantomData.
