It's all so supine and pathologically risk averse. A government trying to survive day to day, too scared to take the kindness of big decisive action which would repair the country and win an election. An unbelievable wasted opportunity.

The UK’s problems stem from having too few successful, productive, international industries. This permeates all areas of national life. It means many places have too few well paid jobs and too little income coming in. This constrains spending in the local economy, hurting smaller businesses.

Those who seek to constantly talk it down do so because they have an agenda that is at stark odds with the reality of the streets. And because most of all, London demonstrates a truth that they would rather not face - namely, that multiculturalism not only works but can underpin a thriving city.
