It took a while but it’s a relief that the government might have finally listened to Lib Dem calls for a profit cap on SEND providers.

For too long the SEND private market has been a rigged racket. Hopefully this change will mark the end of our vulnerable children being treated like cash cows.

Up and down the country, GP surgeries are closing, leaving patients helpless and without the care they need - it’s a disgrace.

The government must deliver our plans for a GP rescue package to ensure everyone can see their GP when they need.

It’s absolutely heartbreaking that one in three people are dying in pain or distress in England.

The government must step up to support our hospices which are on a knife edge after years of underfunding and neglect.

Here’s how to do it...

You don't say - so shocked by this....

Almost like councils that have been hacked away at for years had little left to cut. 🤔

We have age ratings for films to protect children from violence and other harmful content. Why not do the same with social media websites?

Our policy would keep the internet open and keep children safe from Elon’s Chainsaw Massacre.

Today’s U-turn on digital ID was on the cards from the day it was haphazardly announced without any narrative or strategy to bring those who opposed it on side. Its faults were clear: a colossal amount of time, money and effort for a product whose benefits were dubious at best.

This is welcome news.

On the Education Select Committee and elsewhere, I’ve heard some truly upsetting cases tied to smartphones, including children arriving at nursery without the core strength to even sit upright due to excessive screentime.

This weekend there was a lot of chat among MPs about what to do about X.

In the end, my decision was easy: I deleted the app. While I’ll miss going down Megan Markle rabbit holes, the truth is that the platform under Musk has become a cess pit of misogyny.

X’s decision to turn its AI feature that allows users to digitally undress women into a premium service is despicable.

It is an insult to any victim of misogyny and sexual violence.

I certainly hope this is true, though I share parents and campaigners concerns that this roadshow is finishing far too close to expected SEND reforms.

While I’m glad the Government seems to be U-turning on the business rates rise for pubs, I’m again left wondering why it only enters ‘listening mode’ after creating an ill-thought-out policy?
January 9, 2026 at 11:01 AM
At the Budget, the Chancellor claimed her measures would introduce permanently lower tax rates for over 750,000 businesses.

That statement does not stack up with reality. Pubs are on the brink after being hammered by Labour. Now the upcoming business rates hike could tip some over the edge.

It’s as simple as that.

You don’t suck up to bullies like Trump, he will just see it as a sign of weakness.

Keir Starmer must stand up for Britain, our interests and our allies.

Remember when Brexiteers raved about the trade deals we’d sign once we left the EU.

Well, five years on from Boris’s botched deal, let me show why these deals are worth absolute peanuts compared to what we lost thanks to Brexit. 🥜

The UK rejoining the Erasmus+ student exchange scheme is a moment of real opportunity and a clear step towards repairing the disastrous Conservative Brexit deal.

Whether it’s his National Security Strategy or the spurious lawsuit against the BBC, it’s clear Donald Trump is no friend of the UK.

The Prime Minister must stand up for our national broadcaster and tell the President that this is unacceptable.

For families and businesses, the damage of the budget will outweigh any festive cheer.

What the economy really needs this Christmas is an emergency VAT cut for hospitality – letting high street businesses make the most of the festive period and boosting growth across Britain.

Last week, I joined @eddavey.libdems.org.uk and our Education Spokesperson @munirawilson.bsky.social for a roundtable with parents of SEND children.

Their stories are shocking and painted a system that is not only fundamentally broken but almost designed to traumatise parents and their children.

Last month, the Chancellor claimed her tinkering with business rates would bring in ‘permanently lower tax rates for more than 750,000 retail, hospitality and leisure properties.’

If only that was the case!
