A federal judge has enjoined the TikTok ban in Montana (meaning the ban won't go into effect).
The court called the ban a "fundamental constitutional violation" based on the First Amendment, and noted how anti-Chinese sentiments permeated the state's case (& legislation itself).

my pronouns are she / they but also, I’m vastly more comfortable with trans women using “they” for me than cis people. not gonna get mad at either group for using either pronoun but cis people should know I’m side-eyeing you when you “they” me.

Nearly every librarian and library worker I spoke with in the last twelve months was clear that the book banners never had the numbers or popular support on their side—and I’m relieved they were absolutely correct!
An immense amount of media attention was lavished on Moms for Liberty and their ilk, much of it casting the work of a small minority of far right book-banning commissars as an authentic popular groundswell. The liberal countermobilization got comparatively little attention. Time to reconsider that.
Don't overlook this: The big victory in Virginia isn't just about abortion. It also shows that the reactionary "parents rights" nonsense has utterly fizzled.

Nearly every librarian and library worker I spoke with in the last twelve months was clear that the book banners never had the numbers or popular support on their side—and I’m relieved they were absolutely correct!

Something I've noticed about teaching Ancient Mediterranean is that students who don't come into the class with any preconceived notions of Socrates as The Father of Western Philosophy read the Apology and say, "Yeah, I'd have voted to convict too."
