Every year the acting awards ignore my stunning performances as the attentive father in dramas like "Absolutely, I'd Love to Hear About Your New Fortnite Skins"

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, “I’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”

Thailand basically solved aesthetics by 1800 and ever since then it's been a slow decline shepherded by Americaboos. RETVRN. REJECT MODERNITY EMBRACE TRADITION (shirtless men, everything being as red as possible)

I like the concept of "medianworlds" (worlds where you're the average person) because it offers much more scope for unreasonable complaining. No longer must my complaints reckon with "no one else wants that" and "people would not just." in a world of OZYS we would do this PROPERLY

Of course ideally a writer should revisit one, maybe two ideas at most, obsessively and without regard for plot, consistency, character, over the course of a long and increasingly constrained career which ends abruptly and without resolution

it's a normal human impulse to go "good" about someone you think is evil getting shot, but it's better if this sentiment isn't in the public discourse where it can inspire more shooters etc.

sometimes people are surprised that the silmarillion as a book has an active fandom but the thing is that there’s a fandom poster for everything imaginable. there is someone out there saying “rereading just to see pookie bear 🥺” and pookie is like shakespeare’s titus andronicus or something

Okay okay okay.

We all know the One Bed trope on romance books right?

What about those scenes in fantasy/historical/adventure romances when there is only one horse and they ride back together?!

Can we consider that a micro trope? Is it a trope on its own? One Horse?

"it's just as I warned. we stopped irrationally hating gay people for their harmless romantic choices. now people want us to stop irrationally hating poly people for their harmless romantic choices. where will it end? not being allowed to irrationally hate ANYONE? ALWAYS minding my own business?"

“Don’t feed the trolls” also extends to bad opinion pieces in papers of record.

They run them bc people react to them the most.

If we stop linking to bad columns and instead post thinkers we find valuable (& generate convo around it), incentives change.

It’s not easy and takes constant practice!

Beloved American writer Saul Bellow (born Samuel Clemens) got his pen name from his time as a riverboat captain on the Mississippi; when the anchor detached from the sea bed the mate would yell “s’all below” to indicate it was safe to pull up

me: if I were immortal I would definitely create an annotated House of Leaves with my own five-page sex story footnotes

friend: what if you had a century, starting now

me: ...maybe. two centuries for sure

friend: that is an insanely high priority to put on that task

Most things I could say about #wicked already have been (and by people I know), except that among the thousands of incredible details that cost a ton of money to get perfect, there were two cheap things I really liked: the swirl on Elphaba's glasses and the shape of the Grimmerie.

I think a lot of the trouble with romantic relationships has nothing to do with feminism or the apps or porn or TikTok or video games or the innate evil of men, but rather is a product of The Human Condition
