If your team doesn’t know how to verify identity to avoid getting tricked by voice clones, now is the time to prep them.
Someone hacked the personal cellphone of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and impersonated her in texts and calls (possibly with an AI voice clone) to leading Republicans and corporate executives: www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Just had translate for my mom via FaceTime during a govt benefits meeting, where she was entitled to have a govt-provided translator present. We had 2 options: finish the meeting or have benefits stopped.

The narrative that the govt spends too much on providing services and benefits is gaslighting.

For those who sneer at this:

It doesn't fucking /matter/ if lawsuits like this are meritless. It doesn't matter if it'll get dismissed.

What matters is that companies now know that they will have to spend money defending expensive lawsuits like this from state AGs.

Because they hire women & POC.
Missouri's AG Andrew Bailey is suing Starbucks, arguing that its workforce is too "female" and "non-white" and as a result Missouri consumers “pay higher prices and wait longer for goods and services" because its workforce is "less qualified"

This is a brazenly racist and sexist lawsuit.

All of these stories of all of these firings are true — and everyone should share and tell their families and friends about every one — but I think everyone needs to understand that this is exactly what we have been reporting that they are doing as a systematic operation. These are not rogue actors.

Definitely did not anticipate being so interested in this thread + comments about watermarking court docs on a Saturday morning…lol

My personal TL;DR from the thread: Support the @free.law with a monetary donation and/or use their RECAP extension on Pacer.
I will never get over how tacky it is that Democracy Docket watermarks court records. It’s why I don’t share their stuff, tbh, despite the good work they do.

SHARE WIDELY.
KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.

With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights.

You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one.

This is what happens when “not, like, the nine greatest experts on the internet” decide the fate of the internet
Justice Alito: well, surely the government can shut down any newspaper, magazine, or website without any 1st Amendment issue, because the market will step up to replace it.

(tbf he does say it might not impact the constitutional argument, but...)

Having been in the room, 20 feet away from Alito, I'm less sure this him being obtuse. I heard it as teeing up a question for the creators' lawyer to use to make an important point for the record: no, it appears TikTok is not fungible. Creators have not been able to find a workable substitute.
