That’s why I put it in quotes- personally I think AlphaFold is more complicated than an LLM like chatGPT but I also object to the use of “AI” because it’s not true intelligence. The perils of posting right before you go to bed.

I currently use mass spectrometers in my work- incredible, expensive machines. Just because they’re important to science doesn’t mean they should support the entire economy and everyone should have one in their house.

Okay I gave in and read it. I think there are points here that are true (the best use cases of “AI” are in science) but the overall thesis is pretty incoherent. These technologies can be important for science but still untrustworthy to the average person.

I would rather have a world where we all trust each other and accept that a few people will take advantage of it than a world where folks have to perform disability constantly in order to get the help they need. Let kids have an extra 30 minutes on the test, jesus fucking christ

Irrespective of terrible romance opinions, I also have five book stores all within a 20 minute drive of my house and they’re all doing well. Yes the publishing industry as a whole has issues but there are still a lot of book lovers out here.
